Colt 45 Award: vs. George Mason

Post by raptorcat » Fri Feb 09, 2024 5:26 pm

Tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 in Belk. C'mon bench! Two fosties available in the fridge, in addition to the one reserved for this game. Plenty of opportunities for two outstanding bench performances.

Hunter; so far unanimous.

Our bench was very badly outscored. Despite that, Hunter's play stood out. He has my vote.

Hunter was assertive enough to earn a cold one this afternoon

I'll vote for that freshman for Mason who came in and outscored our bench 8-4. 2-3 from range. Nice player.

No Davidson player earned it, not in a game where we were favored at home.

Hunter had 4 rebounds, 3 blocks, and an attitude. After his block of a short jumper by their #2, he started jawing at the guy and kept it up as they lined up for a throw in. That was worth a frosty to me.
"We were in the center ring the whole night,'' longtime Davidson coach Bob McKillop said. ''We were not on the ropes. We were not on the mat. We were in the center ring slugging away, and we just ran out of time.''

Hunter earned it. Another great Colt performance to follow up the Duquesne game. Imagine being a freshman and being asked to guard the opponent’s best player on an absolute heater down the stretch. He did everything we should expect of him and then some. Forced Hall into a ton of tough shots, he just happened to make a few and get bailed out by the refs on the rest. 3 blocks, 4 boards, 2 assists, 1 steal. We’re not in the game at all without his effort. My only gripe is he didn’t get more minutes.

Respectfully disagree. We lost Hall numerous times and he made us pay. I am not sure which of those times he was Hunter's assignment.

I liked Hunter's blocks and especially liked his drive and score. I didn't like the jawing after the block; he should have gotten a tech for that and it would have been a huge momentum shift at that point in the game. He's emerging as a defensive force, a la MPG, so hope he can keep it up. But keep your cool, dude, don't do a Haka on the court.

No award.

My vote goes to Hunter. He has a pretty big lead for this game, but I'll keep the voting open till tomorrow.
