I was doing something that afternoon in Greensboro and returned home and turned the TV on. They were playing the National Anthem, but the players were standing on the court in a random pattern. When they finished the anthem, the announcers explained what had happened.
There was an African American player on the South Carolina team. Casey Manning was a backup guard who played for USC from '70-'73. He retired as a State Court Judge recently. Alex English would arrive in August 1972.
