Other scores
Re: Other scores
Just got an e-mail from UNCC, they say they are expecting a sell out against ECU tomorrow afternoon.
There must be a lot of ECU fans planning to come, because I don't' think that there has been a game this season that was any more than half full. Although they did recently eliminate seats to put in a VIP drinking/eating area.
Always fun to attend games in person.

Citycat and I went to the UNCA-Winthrop game today. Exciting finish; UNCA pulled it out by 4. Drew Pember is a nice player. 6'11" and skinny but can score at all three levels. Kind of a prototype Davidson big.

Re: Other scores
I saw UNC-A play at High Point U. a couple of weeks ago. Although Asheville lost, Pember dropped 30 on them; many of his points were trailing threes from the top of the key. He is very talented.

Re: Other scores
Gamecock men have only one home loss this season, to Georgia. Rematch came today in Athens. Georgia led at the half, scoring 40 points against the Cocks. (When Cocks beat Kentucky in Cola, Calaperi called them the best defense in the SEC.) USC came out in a 1-3-1 zone, held UGa to 22 points in the second half, and won by 10. There might be something to that zone defense thing.

Re: Other scores
1-3-1 is tough to play against athletic teams. Diagonal passes, high to the opposite low block, are tough to stop.
I worked w a coach who won a couple of state championships in TN girls basketball. He played 1-3-1 almost exclusively and coached it very well. He coached boys for just a few years and ditched the 1-3-1.

I went down to Columbia to see Kentucky v. USC.
Absolutely great atmosphere , but not a sellout (pretty close). I think, like many other bldgs, it's too big. (I've heard that they may come close to selling out the women, but I'm not sure). Maybe it was built before the Internet and certainly Smartphones were such a big thing and more people went to games. Wake Forest's arena is also way too big-it was built in the mid/late 80s.
Baylor just built a 7000 seat arena, 3000 seats smaller than the one it replaced. I bet it will get noisy in there. The court is named for a married couple; the deceased husband was the CEO (or something like that) of Oracle. The surviving spouse is now dating Bill Gates. Not for his looks.

Niners blew a 17 point lead and lost a game that they led for 39 minutes. No longer in a first place tie. They get a second chance against USF at Halton in March.

Re: Other scores
Last night was a sellout of 18,000 for the men. Why would you make it smaller? When you consider that men's and women's basketball are their smallest customer when you consider they regularly sellout the arena for concerts, etc. The women have sold out three times this year and expected to sell out rest of season.bagelcat wrote: ↑Sun Feb 04, 2024 6:34 pmI went down to Columbia to see Kentucky v.
