Stute says here which 5 schools are recruiting him the hardest. https://stockrisers.com/2018/12/29/myle ... -involved/

Looks like if we are interested we haven't been aggressive yet. 2020 kid so plenty of time to get involved if we are interested.

Two recruiting thoughts:

1) if our football team got really good and received more investment from alums /AD would Davidson potentially going D1 help our basketball team? Or should we just give even more $ to Davidson basketball to give team fairest shot at best resources to recruit and develop players. We have a great staff would more money dedicated to PT/conditioning help bring in more players?

2) in recent years we’ve been close to a couple high profile bigs but haven’t converted: guys have gone to Northwestern, Clemson and other schools like Harvard or Penn. what gets us over the hump? I want to see more upfront and wing talent leverage off of Kellan. And future guards.

1) I don’t think we can raise the money needed for football to go D1.

2) A great career by Luka could unlock our “big” recruiting. Recruits need to see that Davidson isn’t just a guard school. It’s hard t convince a kid that everything will change once he gets here. Showing a kid “look how we use a 6’ 11” guy. We’ll need you to do that once Luka graduates” would seem to be compelling.

We will never land a high profile big every recruiting cycle but we seem to land at least one per 4 years.... Cohen, Peyton, and Luka were all really good gets and we beat out multiple P5 schools for them. Other than that, recruiting has seemingly picked up recently and while getting a 4 star every year will not happen I like where we’re heading.

Our football team is DI.

We would need 126 scholarships to compete at the FCS level. 63 for FB and 63 for women's sports to comply with Title IX.

Then we would need another 50+ to get where we want to be in all sports.

Agree with football responses was just curious. I’d support a men’s lacrosse team before d- football.

So then we need to focus on building a team around luka and Kellan. If we could get a big player at 4. We’d have our guards unleashed. One reason our 3pt% is low is in this lineup it’s easier for opponents to play guards tighter.i think. Look at unc or wake games.

We definitely need a swing type athlete brooks or Aldridge 2.0. Confident luke will be better over time as acl injury takes time. One reason why I think mj needs two years to recover too.

Gosh, that was fun. Even the mismatched shoes seem to work for him. Game seems smooth, almost effortless. Come to Davidson, Dallion; we will love and take good care of you.

I was there in 1988-89, the last time we had a D-I football team. Superb athletes like Nick Crawford (who ended up starting QB at Yale) and Casey Clark (who ended up playing O-line at Arizona) were on that team. And we still went 2-8, beating Millsaps and Methodist and losing 59-13 to Ferrum, 51-0 to Wofford, 49-7 to Dayton, and 35-11 to Wagner. We did put up a fight against JC Smith, VMI and Salisbury Steak, er State. From 1985-1988, we had two wins in 4 seasons. Both over Wofford. App State beat us 63-6 in 1986. Furman torched us 59-0. WIngate 50-27, Lehigh 47-0.

And that was D-IAA football before the FCS. A 2,000 student school with only 1,000 men is not going to compete in FBS or even FCS football.

Pioneer League is where we should be. And even that is a challenge. The next smallest school is Valpo, with another 1000 students.

Who is the Clemson big that we "lost?"

If I recall, Luke and Chase played AAU together. Too bad Chase and DC weren't aligned - he seems to have a bright future and hopefully his success within the A10 also leads to our success in both future NCAA bids and top 100 stretch 4 recruits :D
