On the Utah paywall protected forum, the writer there said Battin told him yesterday he is cancelling both of his final two visits, so appears Ohio State is out as well.

Fingers crossed.

Riley Battin announcing at 3 PM EST.

Horrible feeling about this considering his recent twitter activity. Fingers crossed insanely hard

was it his mom (Cat Battin) who liked the Davidson Recruiting Tweet about how no players have transferred out of the Davidson program in the past four years? I'm choosing to believe the positive.

It's Utah. Devastating.

Well. Crap. I hate his excellent choice.

Huge blow. Lots of eggs in that basket.

Hope Hunter Tyson makes a wiser choice.

I don't know what the lesson is here. How do you even compare schools like Davidson and Utah? They bear zero resemblance to one another. Like many of the big name recruits, he clearly preferred one type of school to the other.

He made the choice that was right for him as he should. Davidson will be fine and so will Riley. Sometimes you come close to victory and still are a winner. We know that very well.

Maybe. It might have nothing to do with type of school. It could be that he felt a better connection to a group of coaches. Or wanted to stay closer to home. Or he prefers their track record of getting big guys to the NBA. Or maybe his girlfriend attends Utah. Who knows?

I'm not criticizing anybody. I'm wondering what it will take for Davidson to take that "next step" as a program. Obviously one recruit is not make or break, but this was a big one. We all know that.

I truly believe it came down to the Pac12/bigger conference and us, and he was told by Utah he would have an opportunity to play right away (something a lot of coaches tell every kid they offer) and believed it.

Agreed. I didn't see your post as a criticism. We chased this kid hard. Much like we did Luke Maye. I think we took the next step with this year's group of freshmen. Getting either Battin or Tyson would take next year's class up a big notch. It is already good with Jones and Czerapowicz, but one of the big guys would really help. Maybe we sign the big Austrian guy now? He'd be a nice player for us.
