I'm going to ask a dumb question for my own edification.

I was reading a story about Michael Porter Jr. committing to Mizzou and this paragraph struck me:

"He’s 6’10” and lanky and 18 years old, with a lightning bolt shaved horizontally into the left side of his fade. He’s dating a former Disney Channel star and he talks on the phone with Steph Curry monthly."

I don't care about Disney Channel stars, but I got to wondering, is Steph allowed to maybe, you know, prod a McDonalds All-American or two our way, or does the NCAA prohibit such things?

My understanding is that Steph's connection to DC would preclude him from influencing--or appearing to influence--recruits for Davidson.

Every breath Stephon Curry takes influences the entire world to want to be a better person, parent, husband and basketball star. Every high school baller in America knows that SC attended DC. Steph can not do any more to help our program, except getting his jersey honored in the rafters. Will happen, for sure. Well done, young lad.

an outstanding french horn player and applying to Davidson with the same academic profile as say a top basketball player, but both were below what I will call the "admission line", the music department would be short a french horn.
Probably not. More likely two less distinguished applicants would be wait listed.

Theoretically, sure, these conversations happen all the time at programs with more alum even if they are in the grey area of the rules. But like said above, it's more his success and existence that influences the program. The reason they talk though is because Michael Porter played for Under Armour programs.

I'd take one of...
Luke Kennard

Moe Wagner
DJ Wilson
Sam cuncliffe

And bet we'd be a pretty dangerous team
I think Rusty will see lots of time next year also.

Seems like the prognosticators have also forgotten to put Carter Collins in the mix.

Silly prognosticators.

Can I take a crack at it?

JAG
Grady
KP
Peyton
Magoo

HUGE MINUTES OFF THE BENCH (10-20 min
in no particular order):
Nate
Frampton
Rusty
Duca (if healthy of course)
Oskar

Some minutes
Watkins
Collins

Also time for a horribly pessimistic view of an optimistic outcome:
Davidson will be the third best team in the A10 next yr and make the tournament but largely because alot of the usual suspects are gonna have down years in the conference and we return just enough.

Our improvement will primarily come from our new guys. I'm hoping our 3 new guys are amongst our top 6 players. The better they are, the better we are. Don't forget we graduate 6 next year, we need a good season.

Hopefully are three recruits will be finishers and with jack gone other guys will realize its heir time to score; no one else but them to rely on

*our three
As well as 2018 might be the single most recruiting year in a long time.

I really think we already have a number of candidates for "pleasant surprises in 2018":

JAG
Pritchett
Ekwu
Magarity
Kovacevic

What we need instead of two players combining for 40 - 50 points apiece would be three or four scoring consistently in double digits. Aldridge is going to draw a lot of defensive attention, so we need others to take advantage of the double teaming. What our "newbies" will give us initially is relief off the bench to avoid foul trouble and second-half exhaustion. If they can turn into starters that would be pure gravy.

I'm staying optimistic and looking for Grady to be a lottery pick in 2018.
Frampton 2019.
Collins 2020.
