I think they expected Tyus Jones to be a multi-year player coming in, and have been burned by inconsistent point guard play since. I'm of the philosophy that experience in college bball is important but especially at the point guard position. As someone who does not root for Duke to succeed, it's definitely an interesting signing.JerseyLawyer wrote:An email from a friend in Atlanta who pays close attention to the local high school scene, regarding Duke recruiting a 3-star kid:
In a nutshell - Coach K has become disenchanted with the "one and done" recruiting philosophy that they tried to follow the past few years.
Moving forward they now want
to still recruit 5-star guys but also mix in "program" players that can
help maintain their culture.
They were very honest with Jordan from the beginning - he is not expected
to play his first year but is asked to reestablish a healthy locker room,
program culture, etc.

Duke has done this before. Andre Buckner '03 was a career backup PG for the Blue Devils.
K would love to have 13 guys who think they're 1 and dones. He can't play that many players, but he can keep them away from opponents.
The problem with recruiting only one and dones is that no one is committing to be your 9th-13th player. You'll sit behind players 1-8 and then you'll be recruited over.
Every program has a cadre of players who stay 4 years. Amile Jefferson is another example, but he played regularly throughout his career.

New offer to 2018 SF Bryce Golden. Richmond has been interested for a long time (and his brother, Grant, is a Spider).

Looks like he also has offers from Maryland and NC State, among other power 5 programs. Did we pursue/offer his brother?RichmondCat wrote:New offer to 2018 SF Bryce Golden. Richmond has been interested for a long time (and his brother, Grant, is a Spider).

Matt: "Coach, that's BDF."
Bob: "What?! There's two of them!?"
