Hmm. When I watched the video from that AAU game, the Davidson great that he reminded me of was Brendan Winters. He looks like a guy who will contribute early.

Another AAU game where Jones does a lot of nice things. Also didn't realize this immediately, but 45 in white is Brady Heiman, who we have also offered: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n3vutDq1oZ4

Icelandic Player signs with Nebraska

Post by mdickensdc » Wed Aug 09, 2017 3:45 pm

I was surprised to see this. Was this kid ever mentioned as someone that we were recruiting as well.

Icelandic Nebraska basketball recruit Thorir Thorbjarnarson has officially signed with the program Tuesday after reports of his commitment emerged on Monday, and his new coach has some high praise.
“Thorir is Iceland’s version of Manu Ginobili, as he is a crafty left-hander with a high basketball IQ and terrific skill level,” Nebraska coach Tim Miles said in a release. “His opportunities to play with older players in the pro leagues and in international competition will help him a great deal as he adjusts to this level. Ali Farokemanish started recruiting him months ago when he was on our staff, and we continued to follow his progress throughout the summer. He also comes from an outstanding family, and we are excited to have Thorir join our Husker basketball program.”

Thorbjarnarson is a 6-foot-5 guard who will be immediately eligible at Nebraska this season. He spent the previous three seasons in Iceland’s professional league as well as on its national team. He also considered Utah, Drake and UMass before deciding on Nebraska, the school said.
The release from Nebraska also provided a phonetic spelling of his name: Thor-EAR Thorb-YAR-nar-son.

Great to see Davidson still in the running. If Riley Battin and Hunter Tyson join the Wildcats, the next few years could be very special.

He'd be a fantastic fit.

Wow and wow 8-) What a special talent is Mr. Battin; sure to be a worthy lad of the Round Ball should he choose wisely to enter that mythical Kingdom of Camelot. Here's hoping.

We gotta get some size. We are going to be dangerously thin up front. I'm concerned that we seem to only be involved with a handful of big men, and are still apparently pursuing guards.

I think our focus is on bigs now.

Good to hear. All my posts should come with the caveat that I don't have any clue what's actually going on behind the scenes, who we've offered or are pursuing (beyond publicly available reports), or where our focus is.

Davidson has five offers out (that we know of) for next year to bigs and seem to be in the final grouping for both Hunter Tyson and Riley Battin. With the graduation of Aldridge, Ekwu, Michelsen and Magarity and the quality of the guards on the roster, there will be a great opportunity at Davidson to make an immediate impact. I am sure that both Battin and Tyson see that opportunity and, hopefully, will join what the coaching staff is building. TCC!

Don't forget Luka Brajkovic.

We graduate 6 guys this year. We'll sign a large and talented class.
