Every year, Christ School buys a page in a Sunday Charlotte Observer and prints the picture of every graduating senior and where they're going to college. I remember seeing Ben Craig listed because his name is famous at Davidson and in Charlotte.
Congratulations to Ben.

The Craig clan moved to the Rock Hill/Ft. Mill area in the late 1700s and trickled northward into the Charlotte area from there. He is indeed probably related to me as a distant cousin. I have a genealogy book prepared by one of those cousins and will look him up, at the risk of no one really caring.

Maybe you can join me in having a distant cousin on the team.

My middle name is Craig, as was my father's, as is my son's, all after my grandmother's family. Can I join in?

Then would I have to claim all the folks whose middle name is Lee?

Ben's daddy, Chip Craig, is a fraternity brother of mine. Chip was an exceptional athlete and exceptional guy (and still is) with a deep Davidson background. Chip's daddy, Ben Craig, was president of First Union for a good while and the plaza outside Baker is named the Ben Craig Plaza.

Chip serves on various boards in Buncombe County and is a successful businessman.
I sent Ben's (the younger) name to Matt McKillop 3-4 years ago as a player to watch. I'm sure a dozen or so other alums did as well. Ben can play.

Ben the baller scored over 1000 points at Owen High in Swannanoa before transferring to Christ School to finish his high school diploma and hoops career.
He wasn't the best basketball player in the history of Owen High. Brad Daugherty holds that distinction. He wasn't the best at Christ School. The Plumlee brothers set that mark. Ben will do his best for us. We need some quick guards to practice against.
Ben Craig "rescued" Northwestern Bank in the mid-'80s and negotiated a sale to First Union. Many Davidson alums and fans in northwestern NC made some money with that deal.

Ben's résumé suggests a career with an NBA (or other pro league) team if he wants one.

Brad Johnson (FSU and NFL) also played hoops at Owen.
My HS lost to Owen in the WNCHSAA finals in Daugherty’s senior year (‘82). Our PG stole the ball and had a bunny to tie the game in the last seconds. Owen fouled a guy behind the play- negating the layup. Our guy missed the FTs and Owen held on to win.

No, you definitely don't want to do that. A disproportionate number of hapless men on my criminal dockets have the middle names of Lee, followed by Wayne, Ray, and Dean. They appear to be doomed to a life of crime.
