Isn't Hairston one of the players trying out for McKillop's World University Team?

Only in those parts of CO that are not part of the US.

Sorry, I should have phrased that differently... He is not breaking any state laws while he is in Colorado.

First time offenders in NC charged with relatively minor drug offenses are automatically eligible for deferred prosecutions. If he is willing to jump thru some hoops and stay out of trouble for a year he will be rewarded with dismissal of this charge. If he wants to he could then expunge his record. I hope he has the self-discipline to succeed in the program.

Update:
Authorities also said a gun was found on the ground outside Hairston's vehicle during the stop. Forensics testing is currently being done on the weapon, according to police.

He was driving. He didn't have a license to drive. There was pot in the car. A gun magically appeared near the vehicle during the stop. Think he'll get suspended for the first practice next season?

I wonder how long it will be until we see a player intentionally get kicked out of school on a sexual assault charge to take advantage of this loophole? Or just kicked out for something that wouldn't run the risk of prosecution? Like repeated failed drug tests. Or a nice Honor Code violation or two.

P.J. Hairston has another court date in Durham County for speeding, 8/2/13 as opposed to 8/6/13. That must be from a different incident that led to the more recent charges.

He will be very experienced in District Court procedure by the time school resumes. He should try to get course credit for an Independent Study in Criminal Justice. He'll put in a lot more work/time than the athletes who received credit in Swahili courses.

PS. His birth name is Samuel Peterson Hairston, Jr.
