Re: Newest Kool Aid recruiting thread
The Kool-Aid list reflects publicly available sources, typically internet recruiting or social media sites (e.g., Rivals.com, Verbalcommits.com, Twitter, etc.), and published reports. The list is maintained for entertainment purposes only. It contains no information received from coaches or recruits. It should be updated approximately every five pages. For purposes of calculating open scholarships, this list assumes that reported non-scholarship players are still non-scholarship, that players in the transfer portal will not return and no players will take an extra COVID year. The list also now separates players who are publicly reported to visit, or have visited, Davidson.

Re: Newest Kool Aid recruiting thread
Davidson commit Nick Coval is putting up big numbers for Parkland. Thirty points last night (https://www.mcall.com/2023/12/20/lehigh ... ehall-win/) after thirty-two a week or so ago (https://www.wfmz.com/sports/nick-coval- ... 81a27.html). I wonder how certain his redshirt is.
Re: Newest Kool Aid recruiting thread
Assuming he can play points guard like his dad did, why would he red shirt?Acorn wrote: ↑Thu Dec 21, 2023 9:46 amDavidson commit Nick Coval is putting up big numbers for Parkland. Isn't Grant graduating after this season?
Re: Newest Kool Aid recruiting thread
Im not sure if he provided a reason for redshirting, but if Nick is still thinking of doing so I think it could make sense in giving him another year to be in the system and bulk up (6'1 160lbs is a small frame to take on a10 ball, for context thats 30 pounds lighter than grant and just slightly heavier than Brock Matheny). Grant will graduate this year, but it seems like Brizzi's play style seems to more naturally fit as a point guard than playing off ball so I expect he will slot into that starting role.
Re: Newest Kool Aid recruiting thread
I remember an interview with him where he said something about guys his size not being All Conference, so he wanted to get bigger.

Re: Newest Kool Aid recruiting thread
Davidson is well coached, and plays hard, however, if we don't start landing A10 level athletes, like those at Dayton, our ceiling is likely no better than mid-tier in the conference standings. We had a much better post game in our latter year's in the SoCon than we do now. What gives?

Re: Newest Kool Aid recruiting thread
We've had 4 A10 POYs, and a runner-up. We can recruit at this level. Should we adjust our focus? Maybe. We seem to favor skilled players (especially shooting) over athletic players. The guys who are highly skilled and very athletic tend to be recruited by the big names. We’ve always relied on developing the guys we get. That can’t change, even w the transfer mess that is college basketball.
Re: Newest Kool Aid recruiting thread
Since we have some chatter in this thread today, I am a little surprised we havent seen any more news/reports on recruiting for next year. Unless I am forgetting someone (a fair possibility) the only incoming scholarship player I am aware of is Nick Coval. Huffman, Kochera, and Skogman are all listed as seniors on the roster, so I think we have at least 2 open scholarships for next year unless any of those players are intending on returning for another season with a Covid year.
Re: Newest Kool Aid recruiting thread
The last few years, Davidson has had a player join the team as a redshirt in the spring semester. Are all scholarships being used? Any word on someone joining the team now?
I have no inside knowledge, I am asking these questions just based on what has occurred the last few seasons.

Re: Newest Kool Aid recruiting thread
Without a couple of legit post scorers teams can extend their defense to shut down our three point shooters. Plus, we need guys who can get in the lane and score off the dribble. Losing Sam and Dez really hurt.

Re: Newest Kool Aid recruiting thread
Maybe. The whole landscape has changed. NIL is large and in charge. If we sign a few impact players this year and hang on to our underclassmen, I'll be encouraged. People like Bobby will have opportunities elsewhere. Gotta keep guys like that.

Re: Newest Kool Aid recruiting thread
Grant, Skogman, and Kochera all have the additional covid year of eligibility left. They are the last class to have it. In theory 2 of the 3 of them could return and we add Coval, and we’d have a full lot of scholarships next season. I’d bet our staff has a good read on which guys will return and which won’t (including potential transfers) but you never know with 100% certainty how those things will play out.
I don’t have any relevant info but I’d bet our staff is recruiting for 2-3 potential 2024 openings still. And if we’re aware of the need for more athletic, physical players, I’m sure our staff are doubly aware.
Re: Coval redshirt - I’d guess it’s because his skillset is somewhat redundant. Between Spadone, Loughnane, Durkin, we have ball handling guards that can shoot. What we need is guys with Jordy Barham/Nathan Ekwu type skillset, that can jump out of the gym and do dirty work.
