Ali Mackay was around 5 years. He had no difficulty arranging his academics to be on campus 5 years and eligible for 4.

Giving an extra year to a player who might not be ready made more sense when we were in the Southern Conference. With a higher level of competition in the A10 and being able to recruit better players, we should not have to take a flyer on a recruit who might or might not develop.

When Chris Pearson was able to turn pro after 4 years at Davidson, he graduated, not using his 4th season of eligibility. We subsidized his learning to chew gum and dribble.

According to some insiders on the board, if we had pulled out a miracle against Lipscomb, we would have started walkons against UNCG. We need guys who are healthy and ready to play from day one.

Im torn. I was hoping for a done deal, but am also encouraged that Xavier and potentially other schools have interest in him.

+1; I explicitly trust our staff when it comes to recruiting (for example, who else was in on JAG?) but seeing a P6 school, especially a successful one like Xavier, is encouraging.

I believe St. Joseph's was very interested in JAG, for one.

La Salle was also the only other school to go see JAG in Iceland, per Gianini on a broadcast

Question for the wizards: when was the last time we redshirted someone who was available to play? (Not hurt, on campus).

Chris Pearson comes to mind: 1998-1999. Luka would have perhaps been another one, had he come a year earlier. In hindsight, we probably should have given a redshirt year to NBY.

I'm assuming he meant for developmental purposes not for academic reasons.
