He'll need a team that embraces positionless basketball. He may a bit deficient in his handle for an SEC 3. He isn't powerful enough to match most SEC 4 and 5 players. He'll do great. I'll enjoy reading the occasional game story when he has a big game.

The biggest benefit of joining a loaded P5 team is that Reed won’t be routinely double teamed in the post. He should also have fresher legs. That said, he may find the going very tough in the lane against SEC-type competition.

Indiana announced in mid-season they were parting ways with Mike Woodson. They ended up having a decent record.
All their players who could have returned have entered the portal.
Maybe Mike Loughnane and Ricky Ghedini can visit Bloomington together.

This thread is a journey. The first page is full of musing about what kinds of players would best complement Bailey and Durkin. Oops.

Reed - Kentucky
Durkin - Michigan
That’s my guess. I would love to be wrong and it be:
Reed - Davidson
Durkin - Davidson

Cal was mentioned as being interested in Bobby. They have Andrej Stoyakovic, the son of the former NBA star. They're similar players.
If Bobby goes to Cal, they can send us Andrej. We could agree to play them once in Berkeley and once in the Chase Center in consecutive years.
The team can meet our West Coast GM, or whatever while we're there.
Andrej went to Stanford before transferring to Cal. He'll get in.

I wish all our portal guys well, but I’ve already moved on just like they have. Bring on the new guys. Go Cats!

Early tampering bird gets the worm? If rumors are to be believed, that is. And just for this year. We heard rumors that another school offered decent money to try to get Reed into the portal last year.

Just six figures last year, according to rumors.

Re: Up next: the transfer portal
I always kinda thought of mid-major basketball as equivalent to minor league baseball for your entertainment dollar. Up the road in Kannapolis, the games go by and unless there is a great novelty (ALA Tim Tebow) or a generational talent (Jackson Holliday, Bryce Harper) coming to town it doesn't really matter who is playing for 99% of the attendees.
For Belk crowds, it seemed to be an even split between the die hards, and those just looking for a fun affordable outing. We on this here board are in the first category of course, and one of our joys was getting to know the players and watching them progress over 4 years. The portal is turning this into more of a minor league baseball situation, where sure you still root root root for the home team, but its not like you know who any of them are, and they will completely turn over the following season.

If anyone disagrees with anything I say, I am quite prepared not only to retract it, but also to deny under oath that I ever said it
Re: Up next: the transfer portal
Agree with you for the most part. I used to be very involved with the minor league team, was in the booster club for 20 years, on the board for most of those and president and vice president for at least 6 years combined. that level of involvement made me get to know some of the players on the team each year. I am no longer involved and have gone to about 6 games in the post Covid years total.graveline wrote: ↑Sun Mar 30, 2025 12:41 pmI always kinda thought of mid-major basketball as equivalent to minor league baseball for your entertainment dollar. I used to be in the fast break club, I used to have two lower bowl seats, but Davidson must have folks more willing to pay the increased fees than I am, so I sit in the upper level with one seat. With the A-10 move, the only road game that I go to is at UNCC. With the total roster turn over at both Davidson and UNCC, I won't know the players, but I will probably still go to the games. But to your point, it will be done just for an evening out looking for an interesting, dare I say on occasion, exciting game. I don't think I have to be worried about chances for an at large bid or even ceding for the conference tournament.
Well, maybe one day the Hornets won't stink and I will start following them.

I would bet that Durkin ends up at a mid-major, like a Loyola Chicago.wildforthecats wrote: ↑Sun Mar 30, 2025 7:10 amcollegecoach8502 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 29, 2025 6:13 pmReed - Kentucky

His dad played at Loyola.
