Yeah, I don’t see it. He doesn’t have the handle to play the 3 in the SEC

D3 is where it’s at. That’s where I’m pushing my high school junior. Granted it’s baseball vs basketball, but same nonsense plus you have new JuCo rules causing chaos there. For a kid that wants to play 4 years and get a degree, D1 ain’t it. Plenty of competition in D2/D3.El Gato Bizco wrote: ↑Fri Mar 28, 2025 8:52 pm+185Wildcatsky wrote: ↑Fri Mar 28, 2025 1:28 pmI think our near future options are
1. Fight and kick to get into the Big East now that we have a "pot of gold". The A10 is going to be crushed and become AA minor league. Embrace and join the Big Leagues
2. Sit down with the Ivy League, Patriot, etc. Embrace academics. Form a new entity. The colleges could have controlled this with course credits, scholastic progression, and a "sit out" years. Outside money has taken over and corrupted the game and the meaning of college.
3. Hope that attendance and more importantly TV ratings hit the bottom. I haven't watched a non Davidson game in two years. Last year was the first National Championship I have not watched.
4. Go D3.
On a different note. Someone asked what type of system should a coach run in this market. I am surprised no one has gone to the old UNLV Running Rebels model. Push to score over 100 pts and make sure every player is getting 10 shots or more per game. Sure every player now wants a bag but a big points per game average always gets hoopers, potential transfers, and recruits excited.
Coach Abell shuffled the deck in the Pioneer by switching Davidson to option and scoring tons of points. I think the full court run offense could do the same in B ball.
There’s no way for us to run a real “system” with an annual turnover of the majority of your primary players
Gave up my season tickets this year after 30 years of watching Davidson basketball. If I’m going to watch paid players, I’ll watch the NBA. If I want to watch good “non-pro” basketball, plenty of good high school games to attend. Although all the best talent is consolidating to the private schools in high school too, very little “pure” sport out there anymore - “look at me” culture and travel sports has ruined it.

Things are in so much flux that it seems unwise to me to make monumental decisions any time soon.collegecoach8502 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 28, 2025 9:00 pmThere was a time when moving to the Atlantic 10 conference made sense… It may be time to go back to the southern conference… fund our other programs… lead the southern conference in NIL Money… And enjoy basketball with the smaller schools.
If I was a recruiting coordinator for Davidson basketball… I would recruit kids from Canada and Europe, and any other international country that is producing quality, basketball players and student athletes that can handle the rigors of Davidson College. It would allow you to develop a players and potentially keep them for four years since recruiting international kids mitigates some of the perils of the NIL.
It might be hard to predict what may be happening in terms of international students. Even if they are not regularly detained or deported, the threat might give players pause.
I recall one of the women’s games here that I characterized as the Australians vs. the French.

Patience is needed. Thanks, SL. Also, many others are thinking very reasonably and creatively about where DC may fit long-term. I agree with many of those who celebrate Davidson's uniqueness as an uber-small D1 school. I also wonder if this is sustainable, or even desirable in the current environment. No doubt that we are in an era of professional sports, attached to higher educational institutions. For me, this is an uncomfortable marriage.

Just to maintain the completeness of the record here, Natalie’s husband, Robert Wagner, has also been mentioned as having had a hand in her very unfortunate death.

I'm interested in incoming and outgoing Wildcats. My guess is that we won't come close to replacing what we'll lose and that the bottom is way lower than where we've been. In this specific case, though, I doubt that Bobby is 200+ spots better than Parker. Parker was certainly much more highly regarded coming out of high school than Bobby was.El Gato Bizco wrote: ↑Sat Mar 29, 2025 12:49 pmYou seem to enjoy metrics. Is this just a statement of fact or is there an an associated implication?

Re: Up next: the transfer portal
I think many players don’t adequately consider how they will fit on a team. Bobby has a green light here and plays 30+ mpg. His numbers would likely improve if we get another good outside shooter (hopefully we already have). At Ohio State, or some other school loaded w 4 star recruits, he may end up like Kellen at Kentucky- stuck in the corner waiting for a driver to occasionally throw him a pass.
