On the schedule 12/18. Did we know this? https://x.com/JonRothstein/status/1824442311108931849
Re: Temple
I think that's news. Good OOC series for us.

Re: Temple
That's a good matchup.
Re: Temple
Our guys should be familiar with traveling to Philadelphia since we go there at least once a season.
I don't expect Bill Cosby to make an appearance in Belk for the '25-'26 game. Didn't he have a comedy show there about 20 years ago?

Yes. He was the inaugural act for the opening of the new Duke Family Performance Hall in 1992. I was in the audience for that. He sat in a chair in the middle of the stage and gave an occasionally amusing lecture on the value of education. It was not a comedy show. He returned to Davidson in 2003 and did a comedy show in Belk. I didn't go to that one, but I feel sure he demonstrated his rapist wit.
"We were in the center ring the whole night,'' longtime Davidson coach Bob McKillop said. ''We were not on the ropes. We were not on the mat. We were in the center ring slugging away, and we just ran out of time.''

We also have a home buy game against Detroit Mercy on 12/14 per their schedule release:

UDM was one of the worst teams in D1 last year (can’t recall if they won a game) and have since hired a new coach and brought in some new players. In theory it should be a game where a lot of guys get to play, but we’ve all seen that movie before.

Re: Temple
They finished 1-31. Their win was against Horizon Conference foe IUPUI, which was 8-26, 2-18 in conference play.
They're not the basketball equivalent of Rod of God. They have a campus and an arena.
Since we are in a conference with no close by rivals, it would be nice to play some home and home series with someone other than Charlotte.
We could play Wofford, Winthrop, Gardner Webb, UNCG, and UNC-Asheville and expect to see some of our fans make the trip. (Not all in 1 year.)

Re: Temple
We need to have a certain number of home games. Home and home series don't work for the most part. We have to pay the schools you mentioned between $80-120k to come play at our place. We need to pay for wins. Perhaps the schools you mentioned fit that bill. Regardless, that's what we have to deal with. We can only have so many home and home.citycat wrote: ↑Fri Aug 16, 2024 3:01 pmThey finished 1-31. Their win was against Horizon Conference foe IUPUI, which was 8-26, 2-18 in conference play.

Re: Temple
How many home games do we have to play? Where is that written?
We played Delaware and Northeastern home and home and they're no better programs than Wofford or UNCG.
Why pay $80,000 to $120,000 to play a stiff at home when that much money can be a NIL payment to a player?

I think that the A10 mandates a certain minimum number of home games. They want wins.

UD played a home and home series the season before last.
I saw Detroit play at Georgetown twice when I was in high school. Dick Vitale was the coach for the first game. A few long-time NBA players on each squad. My first taste of in person college basketball at McDonough Arena, I was hooked.

Re: Temple
It's not that they can't play home/home, but as i77cat eluded the A10 wants schools to have more home games than away in the non-conference schedule. They want wins. They also highly suggest that the teams you play sit in a certain RPI range. They want wins and they want to improve the RPI of the overall conference. Last year we wanted a game around exam time. We took forever to post Lynchburg on the schedule. It did not fall within the conferences mandate for RPI home games. I don't know if we needed to get permission from the conference, but it was certainly a game that "concerned" them. We needed something to keep the guys competitive during the exam/holiday break and I believe we struggled to find another DI game to play at home regardless of the compensation.citycat wrote: ↑Fri Aug 16, 2024 9:55 pmHow many home games do we have to play?
