Nope, never seen him in practice. We lost the 3 guys who played some PG last year. I figure he's the most likely of the returners. Which means that a new guy is almost certain to get the job. I think that wftc's 5/15 guy is a shooting guard.

Re: Portal
I seem to recall a shooting guard who learned how to be a pretty decent point guard while at Davidson.

Laput led Bentley in scoring, with 20.0 points per game. But he also led them in assists, with 4.3 per game. So maybe he could run point (but he also averaged 2.7 turnovers per game—and his A/TO ratio was not the best on his team).
Re: Portal
Braeden Smith would be ideal.

He's also visiting Washington, who just paid $2 million in NIL for a transfer.
Re: Portal
$2 million is probably pretty difficult to overcome (because of all you cheapskates withholding from the Exit 30 Collective), but DC is on pretty equal footing with his other suitors—Cal and Gonzaga.BaseRich306 wrote: ↑Mon May 13, 2024 1:54 pmHe's also visiting Washington, who just paid $2 million in NIL for a transfer.

The picture with this article makes it clear that this is a pond in which Davidson should never swim, and if this becomes the norm, I will stop following D-1 basketball.BaseRich306 wrote: ↑Mon May 13, 2024 1:54 pmHe's also visiting Washington, who just paid $2 million in NIL for a transfer.

Re: Portal
The one redeeming thing is that he will have been at 3 schools playing for the same coach at all 3 schools. He is no more of a vagabond than his coach is. I still dislike how NIL is working. It would be one thing if the athletes were actually endorsing something and getting paid at market rate for that. I know some folks haven't liked when the female athletes are paid as "influencers" wearing skimpy outfits, but at least that is legit marketing and not just a check for playing, which they already get a free education for.DC69Wildcat wrote: ↑Mon May 13, 2024 4:01 pmThe picture with this article makes it clear that this is a pond in which Davidson should never swim, and if this becomes the norm, I will stop following D-1 basketball.BaseRich306 wrote: ↑Mon May 13, 2024 1:54 pmHe's also visiting Washington, who just paid $2 million in NIL for a transfer.

Re: Portal
Do you think Washington will waste one of their 13 NCAA-allotted scholarships on a guy who can pay full freight, walk on, and still have $1.9 million left? Use that schollie for somebody who needs it, like some poor schmuck who only rates 6-figure NIL money.TOK wrote: ↑Mon May 13, 2024 4:47 pmThe one redeeming thing is that he will have been at 3 schools playing for the same coach at all 3 schools. Obscene for sure, and downright disgusting. Part of the reason I’ve had literally zero interest in the NBA and NFL for years now. Go Cats!

Broadway Joe was paid a $400,000 signing bonus coming out of Alabama, roughly $2 million or so in today’s money. Unlike the $2 million the University of Washington apparently just coughed up for some one-and-done mercenary I’ve never heard of, I believe Namath’s bonus was a veritable bargain.

I'll admit to spending way too much time trolling around here for portal news.
