Re: Portal
Verbal Commits shows 2007 players entered the portal.
Re: Portal
Emory Lanier is not one of the 2007. He’s still shown as a walk-on at SMU despite his father being shown the door.

Re: Portal
Thanks for the clarification. I had been expecting to follow SMU more with them in the ACC. I probably will anyway, just maybe not as much. I received email from SMU that we needed to "pony up" more to pay for the move to the ACC, just right after the coach's firing. My reply to the message wasn't exactly subtle. Emory did have some good minutes at SMU. When I turned on one game, he right then made a 3-point shot.RichmondCat wrote: ↑Thu May 02, 2024 9:44 amHe has already transferred.

BTW, I got email from SMU yesterday afternoon inviting me to a reception in Charlotte last night following the UMC General Conference session. With a bit of notice I might have planned to attend.

Re: Portal
Although yesterday was the last day to enter the portal, the deadline was midnight and a student athlete can notify anyone in the program, so some players’ announcements will trickle in over the next couple of days.

Re: Portal
Maybe an espn network will broadcast a Longwood vs Radford game this year.
Re: Portal
So interesting. A real step down in conference but Longwood might be competitive to make it to the NCAA. I would think Brizzi extracted some promises.RichmondCat wrote: ↑Thu May 02, 2024 5:36 pmAngelo has transferred to Longwood.

Re: Portal
I didn't watch the Lancers much this year. Do they play an up-tempo style? If so, Angelo Brizzi could excel.

Re: Portal
Dont know what his thinking involved, but as an outsider, Brizzi's transfer should be in the other post thread "No limit on stupid"
Bad decisions all around. He wanted to play for Jay Wright and gets talked into redshirting, transfers mid season to Davidson after a new coach takes over, gives up an almost 100% lock to start next season on what will be a good team in order to transfer to a lower level school with zero exposure.
Villanova lost four guards this year to graduation and portal, he would be starting there if he never left.
Reminds me of what John Wooden said about never taking transfers, something like " the player does not have what it takes to overcome challenges at his current school" I an see moving up. Moving down?

I don't agree with a "100% lock to start next season" for the Cats. To use a golf analogy, he might have been the leader in the clubhouse but the other golfers are still on the course. I saw nothing from Angelo this season that would have made me think he was a lock to start, particularly since there were several roster spots to be filled.otherwildcat wrote: ↑Thu May 02, 2024 10:01 pmDont know what his thinking involved, but as an outsider, Brizzi's transfer should be in the other post thread "No limit on stupid"

Longwood has a good coach and it is in his home state. I wish him well.

"Team first" may mean the PG needs to look for shots and score for his team: Steph, Big O, Jerry West(PG/SG), Dave Bing, Isiah Thomas, Allen Iverson (PG/SG), Jalen Brunson ... definitely among the best.

Breakdown by conference of number of transfers, percentage of players transferring, and percentage of minutes transferring:

I don’t know (didn’t see and didn’t dig) how he dealt with grad transfers like Huffman and Skogman. Presumably they’re in there too.
