Re: Newest Kool Aid recruiting thread
I'm pretty sure Davidson requires any 5th year/redshirt senior to have a double major (although not 100% sure), something that might not be of interest to every student. I believe it was mentioned on a different thread that Michael Jones is already working on a double major, something that is a good sign going forward (he also had a reputation as an exceptional student as a recruit, so he might have been pursuing this anyway for all I know). Generally, if a kid is healthy, gets playing time and loves Davidson, I'd assume they are capable of making the double major happen and staying their final season, but if they get their degree in their fourth year and decide to move on, that is also completely understandable and their prerogative, for whatever reason.

Yes. But not to say it doesn't happen from time to time at schools across multiple sports.

Never heard of this happening. Can't split the scholarship. Would be an NCAA violation

Giving partial scholarships to multiple athletes isn't a violation though (at least it wasn't in my day). How does that count against a team's scholarhip count?collegecoach8502 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 23, 2019 2:44 pmNever heard of this happening. Can't split the scholarship. Would be an NCAA violation

It's against the rules for basketball. And maybe football. I think those are the only 2.

I think he means in men's basketball, which is a head count sport.
You can't, for example, give 12 full rides and then split the last scholarship between players 13 and 14. That would put you over the men's basketball head count limit of 13.

Splitting scholarhips in a head count sport is okay as long you don't go over the limit.

Ahhhh. There was no chance we were anywhere near any sort of limit when I was on the track team.chantillycat wrote: ↑Wed Jan 23, 2019 4:24 pmI think he means in men's basketball, which is a head count sport.

Now that I've been reminded that the men can have a head count of 13, it occurs to me that the women can have 15. Our women's team, last I heard, uses just 13. So by the headcount rule, if they had the funds for 14 scholarships, they could do 13 full and two halves, by those rules.
I can see that it could be more desirable to have 14 full, instead, though, so it is probably unlikely even if permissible.

Davidson’s coaches generally do an excellent job identifying and targeting prospects. And, of course, things like character and style-of-play fit matter in addition to basketball ability and academics. But I can’t help but wonder about what could have been with some prospects. In light of last night’s UT OT win at Vandy, that’s particularly true of Grant Williams (UT) and Aaron Nesmith (Vandy), who finished with 43 and 24 respectively (more than George Washington scored as a team). By all accounts both kids are good kids with strong academics (I think both were recruited by Harvard). My sense is that Davidson pursued Williams some before backing off (but backing off before the likes of UT were involved); I don’t think Davidson ever really recruited Nesmith despite knowing of him. There’s no way of ever knowing what happened with them, of course, but I’m still curious.

Kinda hoping we get more backyard NC talent into the program. Sometimes I realize some of US kids with P5 potential "chase" the bigger conference programs but one could argue Davidson non-conference schedule and profile in A10 are attractive. Hopefully we can nab a guy like Justice or others.

Davidson target Isaac McNeely is continuing his excellent play:

He plays for Poca, home of the Dots. And Luke Frampton.

He looks like he could use some Visine. And blood pressure meds.
