Women’s sports, scholarships, etc.

Chris Clunie had a few minutes before much of anybody came into the Fast Break Club, so I raised some of my concerns about funding women’s sports, mostly, and asking what progress is being made. He said that basketball is up to 14 scholarships now. I didn’t know that. He plans to update us on progress, and I won’t try to summarize what all he said. There were no deep, dark secrets revealed, but I won’t try to go into detail about what was a private conversation. We touched on basketball, volleyball, and lacrosse in particular. My interpretation of the bottom line is that because of the Davidson Trust, students with demonstrated need can get along fine with partial athletic scholarships. We can do a lot more with just a few more women’s scholarships.
