I'm shocked at the price. The numbers I had heard were much higher. Great news.

Previous numbers assumed they were removing and digging bowl at current location I believe.

It rewards Bagel and me for going to the Davidson vs. Wake Forest Field Hockey match a decade ago. Now I know where the new football/lacrosse stadium will be.

Great news!
Any idea what seating capacity is being considered?
Part of me still feels like the Richardson footprint would be better. The other part is excited with the new location. I hope they focus on a very traditional look.

Well it saves on a lot of other expenses by building new, from the ground up. It also gives us a facility to play in until the new one is built. Putting it next to Field Hockey addresses their locker room issues and track will get a new facility once football is done at the old Richardson location.85Wildcatsky wrote: ↑Thu Sep 09, 2021 12:23 pmGreat news!

I think, when everything is taken in, that this is great for Davidson athletics. However, my one gripe (and it is a big one) - the stadium is waaaaay too small. With only 5000 seats, two things are guaranteed:
* We will rarely have a decent non-conference game. Doubtful many D1 schools will return games.
* We lose out on a whole segment of quality recruits with a small stadium.
But then, anything is an improvement over that ancient dump.

Hopefully the design will include possible expansions for if/when we need them.

The field would fit on the Richardson site, but there is is no room for the fieldhouse without tearing down Jackson Court, eliminating Hobart Park, and cutting down a whole bunch of really big trees. As it is, I don't see it fitting beside the turf field without eliminating the golf course.85Wildcatsky wrote: ↑Thu Sep 09, 2021 12:23 pmGreat news!

Re: New Football Stadium and Track
I finally clicked on the tab and saw the 5000. Yes that could hurt but in the current configuration it looks like end zone grass may be available for overrun. I have been at Navy and Wake games where the end zone hill is easily filled with 2 - 5000 more fans. The key is to make sure it doesn't end up looking like a high school stadium.Bill Cobb wrote: ↑Thu Sep 09, 2021 1:05 pmI think, when everything is taken in, that this is great for Davidson athletics. Re: New Football Stadium and Track
Well if the rendering has any significance, the stadium would be to the south side of the field hockey stadium and not on the north side.DC69Wildcat wrote: ↑Thu Sep 09, 2021 1:24 pmThe field would fit on the Richardson site, but there is is no room for the fieldhouse without tearing down Jackson Court, eliminating Hobart Park, and cutting down a whole bunch of really big trees.
