Re: Clunie Email re NIL

Or we could not play the game and have D3 athletics. We easily could have gone there. As for me, I like being an alum/fan of a small, academically rigorous school that plays D1 basketball in a really good conference. Makes us unique. And by that a mean in a category of one. Wake Forest is small, but...

Re: Skogman

I've had the pleasure to chat with Skogman a few times. Just a great and engaging young man. He really appreciated playing for Davidson, esp. after playing for Buffalo. He played five games this year after fracturing a bone in his foot (the Navicular bone, for you orthopedic surgeons). From what I g...

Re: Ohh...Mercy, Mercy Me

You can imagine that Bush having his Heisman status vacated was the source of much commentary after the Heisman organization put out a statement which read. in part: "We mourn the death of Heisman Trophy winner OJ Simpson" (not joking).

Re: Welcome Joe Hurlburt!

I am happy to have him, but he scored 0 pts in 26 minutes of action for Colorado last year.

So maybe temper our expectations just a bit, for now.

Re: Bad news for Dayton

Brea lists his final five as UNC, UConn, Duke, Kansas and Kentucky.

He wants to help make a struggling program better.

Re: Welcome Joe Hurlburt!

This news does NOT make me want to hurl.

His hometown (Enderlin, No. Dak) is listing as having a population of 881 in the 2020 census

Re: Portal

From the Field of 68: More than 1,600 men’s college basketball players have entered the transfer portal since it opened on March 17. It closes for undergraduates on May 1. A rough estimate means that about 35%-40% of players are in the portal. Get used to it. The NCAA D-I Council approved changes to...

Re: Congrats to Michael Jones

The school with the most all-time Academic All Americans (26) is Illinois Wesleyan, which I easily could have predicted.

I wonder if one of them was Jack Sikma.

Re: Welcome Zach Laput!

It is neither sanctimonious nor wishcasting to state that Davidson has rigorous standards for the admission of athletes (not saying basketball players necessarily have the same credentials as non-basketball playing students: I doubt that is the case at any upper tier academic institution). But the a...

Re: Welcome Zach Laput!

I thought I remembered someone playing at Bentley a long time ago. I remembered him because he was listed in Street and Smith Magazine, which we meticulously studied back in my student days for its listing of high school players. Maybe I should have been studying something else, but whatever. Sure e...

Bad news for Dayton

Koby Brea is in the portal. We have been on the receiving end of his great-and I mean great-outside shooting. Most recently at UD Arena (I was there, and he personally made sure the 2d half was drama free.) You may recognize a few of the names below. I'm not sure what "Effective" means... From a Col...

Re: Welcome Zach Laput!

If we are going to be competitive in the A10 we might have to get comfortable with some things we might not have been so comfortable with before. Not that I'm uncomfortable with this, even if plays only one year. We need help. Think of him as visiting international student who happens to play basket...

Re: Portal

I didn't know you lived in Manhattan, or on a base near Manhattan (Ft. Riley?) Was Rolando Blackman on that team? I think he made a shot that brought down a heavy favorite (Oregon St, maybe) in the 1981 Tourney. I hope they weren't wearing two tone purple, as they did for a while in the mid 70s, I t...

Re: Portal

There was a story in The Athletic about FB players who'd been to three schools, with the focus being on which school the player felt ultimate loyalty to. One of the players they talked to was Chase Brice, who played QB for Clemson, Duke and App St. They also talked to a player who spent most of his ...

Re: Shiny New Billiken

All of the Indiana State starters are in the portal, inc. Robbie Avila (a.k.a. Cream Abdul Jabbar and Larry Nerd). If Saint Louis gets Avila and a couple of the other players, that's going to be trouble.
