Re: Good Day For a Wildcat

Brett Boretti’s Columbia Lions won the Ivy League’s regular season. They did not win the conference tournament and will not make the NCAA tourney. One has to wonder if all of that crap going on at Columbia distracted his team. When the campus was locked down for a few days I wonder if they were eve...

Re: Good Day For a Wildcat

There's an article on ESPN that says 5 ACC teams, but not Duke, will host NCAA Regionals. 5 SEC schools will host Regionals, too.

ECU is hosting a Regional, so Cobb's prediction was correct.

No word where Kansas State is being sent. They should be a 3 seed.

Good Day For a Wildcat

Chris Pollard's (DU '96) Duke Blue Devils defeated FSU 16-4 in the ACC Championship this afternoon in Charlotte. Duke was ranked 17th in Warren Nolan's RPI. Winning the ACC title over the 8th ranked Seminoles should boost Duke into the top 16 and allow them to host a Regional. UNC and Wake should ho...

Re: Hoyt Wilhelm

His SABR biography says he chose between turning pro and going to Davidson University, but he didn't pitch in organized baseball until 1942 with the Mooresville Moors. Maybe he pitched in semi-pro baseball from '39-'41. The Moors played in the ballpark in south Mooresville where the collegiate summe...

The Panthers swept Denison to advance to the Division III College World Series. The Division III World Series includes 8 teams. The teams are divided into groups of 4 and play a double elimination format until 2 teams emerge. Those 2 play a best of of 3 series to determine the champion. The first ga...

Re: Newest Kool Aid recruiting thread

Perhaps Davidson should emphasize recruiting players from NC and Upstate SC. We lose most to ACC schools, but there are some who are not ACC worthy or only get recruited by the lower level ACC schools.

Colt Langdon '25 of Millbrook in Raleigh has not committed yet.

Great running!

Note he edged a runner from NC AT&T by .06 seconds.

I hope the acquisition of the school by that communications giant means they will spend to improve Memorial Stadium's grandstands.

The stadium celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2026.

Birmingham-Southern College, a NCAA D3 school, is closing 5/31/24. Their baseball team has advanced to the D3 playoffs. They play at Denison University this weekend. If they win that best 2 of 3 series, they'll play the next weekend. They could continue playing despite the school having closed. Go P...

2026 A10 Men's Tournament

It will be in Pittsburgh.

They announced the Tournament will return to the Wednesday through Sunday schedule.

I hope that's the schedule for the 2025 Tournament. (It will revert to the 5 day format for the 2025 Tournament.)

Bob Whaling '74, PGA Winning Caddy

This is a short version of an article in today's Greensboro News/Record and Winston Salem Journal. The 1974 PGA Championship was at Tanglewood Golf Course outside Winston Salem. The course required the golfers to use local caddies. (That was the rule at all major championships until the mid-'70s. Th...
