I recently learned that Western Carolina has a Program for the Study of Developed Shorelines. I'm seriously concerned about climate change, but I had no idea Asheville & Cullowhee would be thinking this far ahead. follow the money. A grant to study groundhog mating is tough to get. But a grant to s...

European leagues have a limit on number of Americans on teams. Dual citizens don’t count toward that. Several Wildcats have benefited from that opportunity. Besides Jake there were also Sophia and Nik (Canadians being also in that same limit. In March of 1990 I had dinner with Bob McAdoo and Mike D...

That refreshes my recollection. The reason given for the firearm was Hairston was in a "Paper Class" entitled "Exercising Constitutional Rights". PJ was researching his 2nd Amendment Rights. Despite the negative publicity surrounding the arrest, PJ was able to submit an acceptable term paper on the...

I got a heads up on a point guard (6-2 or 6-3) who can catch lobs and dunk them with two hands. Has a quality shooting stroke from 3 and scored 5 on the AP tests in English and American History.

Interesting discussion. I can remember when it was modestly offensive to state that women couldn't compete with men in basketball. Now I understand that stating the opposite is offensive. Perhaps Jay didn't get the new memo. He clearly didn't. I think most observers are starting to realize that whe...

I think the big guards we have is the reason both our defense and rebounding have improved. I could see a 4 guard lineup next year. (counting KP and Frampton as guards). BTW what are Frampton's primary skills? Ranked as one of the best shooters in the class, has decent athleticism, and is purported...

Related to zone, did anyone notice the way we were guarding the pick and roll in the zone against URI? Our center (Will or Oskar) was coming all the way out to the three point line to hedge on the pick and roll like we do in our man defense, but we were definitely playing zone. It was an interestin...

He is a beast. The reason UNC was able to come back and win was their defensive change in doubling Williams. He was unstoppable down low with a single Tar Heel trying to handle him. In preseason, Vols were picked 13th out 14 teams. Finished tied for the SEC title in a year the conference was very s...

Brick sarsaparilla wager? You're on. I doubt that Luka will be ready defensively by opening day. Dusan and Nate will be. Bob and defense are a thing. 69 makes a good point. I have no idea who will start. Generally it's a good idea not to get too pumped about recruits until we see them play in a few...

Michael Wilbon just put Marcus Williams in the Freddy Brown/Bill Buckner club. Marcus wasn't even born when they made their famous plays. Botched tackle much, much worse than Buckner play. Light years worse. No comparison. Tackler failed doing something he should not have been trying to do at all. ...

Speaking of NKy, Isaiah Sulack is the son of a friend of mine who is getting recruiting interest from them. He played point guard for Dickey Simpkins' AAU team that won the national AAU title for 18s. He is playing prep ball this year at Belief Prep in Athens, TN. He's still growing at 6-4 and reall...

Tommy McConnell '83- presently the WBB HC at DII California of PA went to a JC near Pittsburgh. One year in baseball we played both California (Pa) and Indiana (Pa). I'd never heard of either. Geographical confusion to the max when I saw the schedule. I had no idea why universities in both Cal and ...

As Greeny at Mike and Mike pointed out this morning, the NCAA is punishing a kid for going to class. If he hadn't gone to class, he could play. But he went to class, so they punished him.

To understand the actions of the NCAA assume it is controlled by a cabal of its enemies.

ESPN's rankings are also among the least reliable outside of the top 30-or-so players, they place a ton of emphasis on kids playing at blue blood programs and not much else. Used to be ridiculously the case in football. Some recruiting raters were little more than propagandists for their favorite c...
