Box score after 3 qtrs shows Mariota 16/16 237 and 2 TDs, O Ints
Titans have rushed for 94 on 20 carries. No fumbles.
Losing 27-17. How is that even possible? _________________ "Then they started making 3s. A lot of 3s. We're talking more 3s than a bad dating site." |

When a QB has completed every pass at an avg of nearly 15 yards and team has zero turnovers -- 1) why do they have only 17 points after 3 qtrs? 2) Especially when the run game is showing above average production? _________________ "Then they started making 3s. One key number omitted above may have influenced this: at the end of the game (don't know about 3q), Mariota had been sacked 6 times and lost 43 yards. That is a lot of negative yardage to overcome.
Also, averages hiding variation may have made the numbers unrepresentative of how efficiently the offense was moving. Take out the 61 and 48 yard passes and he was 20/21 for 194 yards. Still almost 10 yards a pass, but not 15. Add the sacks and the 27 passes netted 151 yards - pretty pedestrian. Rushing is a similar story - take away the 39 yard run by a WR and they had 22 rushes for 66 yards. |

It's pretty much true that if you take away the long plays you will end up with short plays on average.
Didn't see the game, but when I see stats like that I assume that the team moved freely between the 30s and then broke down. [21st century SF fans see this all the time.] |

I'm always flummoxed when a QB has completed every pass and they are punting are lot. What's wrong with this picture? Throw the ball past the sticks! I'd rather see some incompletions.
My point is that something is very badly wrong with strategy or tactics when the QB completes every pass and the offense isn't productive. _________________ "Then they started making 3s. A lot of 3s. We're talking more 3s than a bad dating site." |

Hard to argue with that. |
