Several schools are pondering an additional game to add this year to replace cancelled games due to Hurricane Florence.
Would it be worth it to extort a big big pay day to play a BCS school or to end the season as it is: On an incredible high note? _________________ "I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing Astroturf and the designated hitter."

I have often wondered how our high octane offense would do against a Big Cheating School team. |

I feel fairly confident that we would score a bit on some low-end BCS schools. Hell, San Diego is pretty good, actually really good, and we hung 52 on them. _________________ "I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing Astroturf and the designated hitter."

The players and parents we talked with after the game yesterday were happy to end the season, and in some cases their careers, with a win.
If a game had been scheduled a couple of weeks ago, the players and their families would have more time to prepare to travel to the game.
The whole team could travel and suit up since the PFL roster limitations wouldn't apply.
Is there any school with an open date other than UNC-CH? South Carolina has one, too. We're 14-6 against the Gamecocks. A 7 figure check would be a nice reward to make that 14-7, assuming the worst. |

I am a big fan of next level--itis but we are just not ready to tackle BCS or most scholarship FCS programs yet.
San Diego lost to FCS UC Davis 54 -21
UC Davis Big Sky Champ beat BCS San Jose State & BCS Idaho. Lost to Stanford & Oregon......not too bad for scholarship FCS.
San Diego lost to Harvard 36 - 14
I know Butler beat a scholarship Youngstown State but I don't know of another Pioneer league team knocking off a scholarship or Ivy Program.
So this year we might have been able to hang with some lower level FCS teams .... the usual suspects...VMI, Citadel, Bucknell, Lafayette, Presby but I think we would have been severely challenged by any quality FCS program. Any BCS team who could offer a paycheck would probably destroy us, causing possible harm along the way.
I don't think a BCS team can play us because they may not get bowl credit for beating a non scholarship program.
So at the end of the day, I am very pleased to end on a high note and keep building. _________________ "They were energized by this move to the A-10. How could you not be?" McKillop said. "The tree is filled with a lot of presents." |

Massey rates Butler's win over Youngstown State as the biggest upset of the year in college football.
The Pioneer League won 2 games against non-Pioneer FCS competition.
Arguably we could play South Carolina, which is already bowl eligible, or UNC-CH, which is light years from going to a bowl. |

"Arguably we could play South Carolina"
And IF we lost, the Clemson wannabes would still have a losing record against the Cats. |

Incarnate Word made the FCS playoffs for the first time. They travel to play Montana State on 11/24. The Cardinals were 6-4 this season.
In addition to that playoff game, the Cardinals have scheduled a game at Iowa State for 12/1. There's no explanation what happens to that game if the Cardinals upset the Bobcats.
If the Word wins and cannot go to Ames, could Davidson be next up for the Cyclones? |

South Carolina is certainly not looking to add a FCS opponent as they have already scheduled a game vs Akron on Dec 1st.
Most FBS schools looking to reschedule at this time have already played one FCS opponent this season so they are looking for games against FBS opponents that can actuality count towards bowl eligibility.
I understand this question was posed as more of a fun "what if?", but we will never see it happen at Davidson unless the Wildcats ever make the jump to scholarship football.
This board has often suggested Davidson schedule a money game vs an FBS team. That is quite simply not going to happen. Our money games will always be against scholarship FCS programs. Its extremely rare to see a non scholarship FCS like Davidson play anyone at the FBS level much less Power 5 teams the board is suggesting. With the NEC and Patriot League moving to scholarship football you occasionally see them schedule FBS games but it is not very common. Ivy League and Pioneer League teams playing FBS opponents is even more rare. SD at SD State in 2015 is one of the last examples of a non scholarship FCS playing an FBS school I could find. We often see the blow outs that occur when a scholarship FCS (63 scholarships) takes on a FBS team (85 scholarships). 0 vs 85 is not a match up I care to see nor one that many coaches or administrators on either side would sign up for. |

Army & Navy are Patriot league members in most sports except for football. Due to that membership Army & Navy play yearly games against Patriot league opponents. Lehigh played Navy this year and the improving Army played both Colgate and Lafayette this year. I do not believe this began until the Patriot League began giving scholarships because I do not think you get bowl credit if a team is not scholarship.
Army was given an NCAA exemption with need based Yale in 2014 but lost the game.
Yale played Army in a retro traditional Yale bowl game. Yale beat Army 49 - 43
The USD vs San Diego State is the only other example I can think of that type of non scholarship opponent stepping up into BCS scholarship world. I am sure there were more of those games played back in the 60' & 70's. _________________ "They were energized by this move to the A-10. How could you not be?" McKillop said. That is pretty crazy. I read where they last played in 1985 and Drake won. I guess they were still a Missouri Valley Conference scholarship program at that point.
I will have to watch the game and hopefully they can hand for awhile like Citadel vs Alabama.
I think I would run every snap count to the max in the 1st half. _________________ "They were energized by this move to the A-10. How could you not be?" McKillop said. "The tree is filled with a lot of presents." |

70th Drake-Iowa State game. Fans had to wait over three decades for this.
Hopefully, we won't have to burn the record book when it's over. |
