On some sports talk show in the mix on Direct TV (love channel 205) had somebody claiming that Duke would not lose this year.
Any predictions/guesses/wild hairs/uninformed speculations for whom and when? Or undefeated NC. _________________ "Then they started making 3s. A lot of 3s. We're talking more 3s than a bad dating site." |

Uva has the horses, coaching, and defense. |

They have a home-friendly start of the season, but Clemson would be a crazy home loss. Syracuse or UVA might also provide a tough test. Orange uni colors could be Blue Devil Kryptonite. |

They certainly dismantled Kentucky, but that can happen when you accidentally slip a real contender into a "bum of the month" schedule. It might be interesting if they get matched up against Gonzaga st the Maui Invitational. |

Yes, but maybe not until February. Then they lose two or three and everyone starts writing "what is wrong with Duke?" Of course, the correct answer is "they finally started playing good teams on the road." _________________ This is a post by BDF, not BDL. |

They play UNC-CH, Syracuse, and Virginia on the road. Those are challenging opponents and venues.
Duke has gone undefeated in the ACC twice: in '62-'63 and '98-'99. In '99, they lost the championship game to Connecticut. They lost an early regular season game to Cincinnati on a neutral floor. Those were their only losses in a 37-2 season.
In '62-'63, Duke lost in the NCAA semi-finals to Loyola. Their only regular season losses were to Miami, led by Rick Barry, and a team in NC in a game played in the old Charlotte Coliseum. A few years ago a couple of us were able to sort through Lefty's mementos and found several scraps of paper where he calculated how much money that game had earned for Davidson.
Note the lack of correlation between going undefeated in conference play and winning the national title. A similar lack of correlation between winning the ACC Tournament and the NCAA Tournament became evident from '91-'93 when ACC teams won 3 NCAA titles, but only one of those champions won the ACC Tournament. |

Yes - they will lose.
They are led by 4 freshmen. It's easy to get up for Kentucky on the opening night of the season. Let's see if they bring the same focus and intensity for an afternoon game in Tallahassee or a midweek affair in Blacksburg. |

They will lose.. and quite possibly in the one and done big dance... if a few of them start thinking more about where their draft position is going to be in June rather than how to play good defense against a hot mid major in March. |

UNC in the ‘08 semi comes to mind. Either they were worried about draft status or the African American Studies two paragrapher was due on Monday. _________________ "That light he has is not green, it's fluorescent."

B.S. Someone else was going to write those two paragraphs.
They just let down their guard when they realized they weren't facing Davidson and fell into a 40-12 hole.
That's my story and I'm sticking with it. |

I haven't seen them play yet. I don't enjoy watching Duke win.
Judging solely by the score it appears that Auburn had enough talent to have had a legit shot to get a win. Did anyone watch it yesterday? Based on that game, can we conclude that Duke is certainly beatable and likely will lose a few times this year? _________________ "Then they started making 3s. A lot of 3s.
