Game time 7:00 PM. Virginia Tech (9-4-2) is ranked #10 in the Coaches Poll, and their RPI is 8. We are #59. A-10 schools with higher RPIs are URI (33), VCU (43), SLU (50), and Fordham (52). For perspective, ETSU is the highest rated SoCon team at #55, and Mercer is next at #107.

VaTech has a large international contingent (14/30 players and 6/11 starters). They beat 16th-ranked Notre Dame on Saturday, but they lost to 3 of the other 4 ranked teams on their schedule (WFU, UNC, and NCSU). They tied #10 UVa. We are 3-4-1 all-time against them, losing 2-1 at Blacksburg last year. Their next game is against #9 Duke, so this is definitely a trap game for them.

I have heard that wftc is so excited about his beloved Hokies coming to Davidson tonight that he has volunteered to serve on the chain gang for this match.

Like against Fordham, the guys look good in the opening 15 minutes. But VPI is really good. Goal at 27:03. Won't be the last.

1-0 Hokies st the half. We had our chances, including a shot that hit the right post, but VaTech is definitely better than we are. To add insult to injury, they have a lot more fans than we do. There are maybe 20 Davidson students here, and the center section is mostly orange and maroon. I actually had to ask a could of Hokie fans to sit down so the few Davidson fans behind them could see.

Final. 2-2. I left after about 20 minutes, certain that we were overmatched. Solid result.

We played much better in the 2nd half, scoring on a PK by Henry Howell and a 20-yard blast just inside the far post by Jaylen Thompson. We had a couple of excellent chances to win the game, one in the 2nd half, when a shot by Jaylen at an open goal hit the right post, and another in the 2nd OT after a gorgeous cross from Jaylen, who may be the fastest player we've had in several years.

It was a fun game that we could have won against a very good ACC team.
