| Glorious day in Davidson football history. Cats whip the 1968 Tangerine Bowl champions Richmond 37-7. Spiders were never in it, trailing 24-0 at the half. For his efforts, quarterback Gordon Slade was National Player of Week. |

I am curious, does anyone know if there is any game film archived from the glorious Tangerine Bowl year?
I am sure many X players including myself would love to see some of those games.

A DVD of the Tangerine Bowl is out there. |

Is that the wide right game??
PS: At a $110 all these games might be painful.

I left that game after we missed the chip shot field goal and walked into the Duke Dorm TV lounge. Whatever game was on ABC showed a picture of Gifford Piercy and gave our score.
They probably set that up as we were lining up to try the kick and ABC thought Davidson would win. |

Gifford Piercy- I rank him in my all time top 10 Wildcats. Gifford could catch anything thrown to his 3rd of the field.

The 1969 Tangerine Bowl (highlights), the 1960 upset at Va Tech, and a mid 1930s (maybe 1934) game against Wake Forest are all things I know to exist. I have been told that the game film from the unbeaten 2000 season games is still around. Presumably, a bunch of recent game films more poorly reviewed by the critics are still around.
There are a few game film canisters from the late 70s-early 80s, but I have no idea what happens after you crack them open. One 1957 basketball canister nearly knocked me out when I opened it. Sort of like 1915 Ypres if the Germans had gone with vinegar instead of mustard gas.
The college's decades-long neglect of the remaining 1960s Driesell era footage is probably the reason so much could be converted back in 2010 after Matt McKillop found them. It hadn't been opened, viewed, and reclosed a bunch of times.
For me, the Holy Grail of old football film footage beyond the Va Tech game would be this half dozen:
1917 Auburn (in Atlanta, after which appeared a cartoon of Auburn being overrun by a "red and black machine")
1926 North Carolina (homecoming for us, part of the unbeaten run against the big four schools in NC)
1949 NC State (in Charlotte)
1969 Richmond
1969 East Carolina
1973 The Citadel |

Ironically his Davidson experience apparently provided the motivation for him to become an all Big Ten and second team All American kicker.

Your story confirms what I have believed for many years. Coach Farrell brought a curse with him to Davidson.  The balls missed the uprights, bounced off of players heads, and many other demonic occurrences happened on Richardson field during his tenure. Several players succeeded once they left the Wildcat program.
