Any chance his ridiculous salary has attendance incentives? _________________ That didn’t happen.

In 2013, Saban said that if his players are asked to compete for 60 minutes then "you should stay there and support the team for the game."
Note the quote is from 2013. The starting QB left the game in the first quarter last week, up 28-0. I believe he came back for a series before the half. |

Come playoff time, it's fun to watch how good his teams can be, but little joy can be found by delving into the details of how Nick Saban makes the sausage. |

In the 9/20/69 Alabama game you attended in the rain, why did some Tide players wear a white helmet? |

I definitely remember that some did wear white, and I remember that we were annoyed by that.
The "why" is something we didn't know at the time. I have seen different stories about that from supposed Alabama sources. One involves the conversion to 1969 "100 Years" helmets with the football shaped logo on the side with "100" inside it. The other states that, at times in the 1960s, Alabama would have their eligible receivers wear white helmets when they were playing a team that, like Bama, had dark helmets themselves.
The Gobblers had maroon helmets with a V and a T on them, so maybe that's it.
Whatever it was, it bothered you all game. Maybe even more than wearing that yellow slicker. |

Funny, I do remember the %$#! yellow slicker. At least the Tide won. As did the Wildcats that night over Guilford. |

Yellow slicker with black metal clasps. Stylin'.
Davidson went on to have a better record than either Alabama or Va Tech in 1969.
That year and 2000 might be the only times that happened.
And the 1969 game is part of my lifetime record of 5-0 against the Gobblers at Lane Stadium (including a bitter defeat at the hands of VMI).
That's my admittedly weak answer to your lifetime undefeated record for Davidson at Duke and UNC. |

Must have been the season opener. I saw that Alabama team lose 13-10 at Vanderbilt on Oct. 11 that year. Bama was 3-0 and Vandy 0-3. Tide had just beaten Archie and the Ole Miss Drells 33-32 in one of the greatest games ever -- the first nationally televised regular season night game. Still the best game ever played by a QB. Scott Hunter, later of the Packers, also lit it up.
Vandy had nearly 500 yards total offense and Bama barely 200. _________________ "Then they started making 3s. A lot of 3s. We're talking more 3s than a bad dating site." |

I remember watching some of that game and playing outside in the cold that night. |
