Current standings...

I can recall a time in late November when we were favored in 5 of our 24 remaining games. One of those five was Gardner-Webb, which is a game we lost.

Well, we’ve won 6 games since late November, and we're now favored in 4 of our 8 remaining games. That's pretty cool.

** Massey’s or anyone else’s predictions notwithstanding, this team has put itself in a good position to finish at least 8th in the standings and to earn a home game in the first round of the A10 tournament.

We are two games clear of both UR and SBU, and we hold the 2-way and 3-way tiebreakers over them. La Salle is only 1-1/2 games behind us. However, the Explorers are not favored in any of their remaining games. We’re in great shape if we take care of business over the next four weeks.

As far as catching one of the teams above us -- likely our coaches’ and players’ focus -- is concerned...

* GW holds the tiebreaker over us, so we would need to somehow get one game clear of them. Not likely given their remaining schedule.

* Saint Louis does not have an easy road ahead â€" GW twice, Dayton, Duquesne, and Fordham. But they’ll probably win at least one of those five games, which means that we’d probably need to win our game at Saint Louis on Feb. 4 to catch them. (Our first A10 win ever, and our only A10 win in 2014-15, was at Saint Louis.)

* St. Joes has been playing without star Chelsea Woods recently. No idea why, or what her prospects are. Regardless, we play the Hawks at home on Valentine’s Day in a game Massey rates as close to a coin flip. Win that one and there’s a chance we’ll move up.

Go Cats, one game at a time...
