Wednesday, high noon, at historic Rose Hill Gymnasium.

12-4 overall, 3-0 in the conference.

#258 at #71. 7%. 66-49.

These Rams have three top 100 wins, the best of which was at #54 St. John's. Worst loss was at #193 Boston College. Their other three losses were to top 100 teams.

6-2 SR G'mrice Davis averages 16.7 ppg and 13.6 rpg. 5-8 FR Bre Cavanaugh averages 15.5 ppg. Two other players average 9+ ppg.

46% 2FG, 28% 3FG, 76% FG. Plus 8 on the boards. Turnovers less than 15 per game, matching their opponents.

My recollection is this is not a flashy team. They are very workmanlike, and they will fundamental you to death.

Noon start. Why, you ask? Because Field Trip Day! Thousands of screaming kids! Woohoo!

This will be our 8th conference game against Fordham. That's three more times than we've played any other A10 team since joining this league. We are 2-5 in the first seven games against the Rams.

Starters... Katie, Saadia, Justine, Ally, Mackenzie. Cats are in red today.

1st qtr, both teams playing man-to-man, Cats with some full court pressure.

4:50 left, 7-5, Cats. Nothing easy for either team.

End of 1st qtr, 15-13, good guys. Five Wildcats have scored. Sarah and Justine each with 4. Fordham is 3 for 4 from deep.

2nd qtr, 4:36 left, 22-20, Cats. Both teams grinding it out. Rams to shoot a pair after the timeout.

Halftime, 33-31, Fordham. Justine has 8, Mackenzie 7, Kianna 5, Sarah 4. Plus 1 on the boards. Turnovers even at 6 each, but we have 11 pts off them versus their 3 pts. We led by 6 before they went on an 8-0 run toward the end.

Cavanaugh has hurt us driving to her right repeatedly. We've done a nice job on Davis so far, she has 8 pts but on 10 shots.

31-37 now. Staying close against a superior team.

3rd qtr, under 3 minutes, 51-38, Fordham. Taking chances defensively, getting burned.

End of 3rd qtr, 53-42. Very clean quarter from the Rams. Mackenzie is the only Cat in double figures. She has 11.

42-53 after 3. We hit a shot from beyond midcourt to end the 3rd, but it was well after the buzzer.

Not a first for Katie. This also was waved off, but I truncated the video to hide that fact.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CxTybEaBEXY

Less than 6 minutes left, 57-47, Rams, who are 7-14 from deep. Refs finally called Holden for traveling on her catch-and-shoot. Same move Kianna gets called on sometimes.

Despite the score, I have enjoyed watching this game. We have had difficulty with their post player driving, and have been unable to find our own offensive groove in the second half.

But nonetheless, I have enjoyed watching us compete. Fordham has played much better this half.

44 seconds, 62-58. Nice flurry by the Cats making it interesting.

18 seconds, 65-58. Cats to inbound after the TO.

Had the ball down 4 with 40+ seconds to play. Didn't score, fouled, free throws by them, missed a shot, fouled the rebounder. Great effort.

** Final, 66-58. Good game. I kinda liked their announcers -- they had done some homework on us.

21-6 in pts off turnovers.
8-0 in fast break points.
10-2 in steals.
39-34 on the boards.

We did a lot of nice things in that game.

Mackenzie had 13 pts, 7 rebs, 3 asts, 2 stls. Justine with 13 pts, 6 rebs, 2 stls. Saadia and Sarah each with 8 pts. Katie had 6 pts and 5 asts.

Cats head to Richmond on Sunday.

I'm not one for morale victories, but Fordham is a good team - 13-4, with some quality wins inside and outside of conference. Like the effort against a good team and on the road.

#258 has to be in favor of some moral victories. Or perhaps some morale victories. This team is learning that they can compete and even get the occasional win. It is a huge step up.
