Thursday at 7 pm. Tough task. Duquesne is the top team in the A10. Massey had them at #61 before their game today. They own three wins over Top100 teams. But they also own a loss to Charlotte. Looking forward to seeing us play in person again.

Roster geography...
Pennsylvania 4
Ohio 2
Canada 2
Hungary 2
Spain 2
West Virginia 1
Estonia 1
Finland 1
Serbia 1
Top three scorers are guards. Two of those three -- Omogrosso and Vojinovic -- are in the A10 top 5 in scoring. Both shoot 40% or better from deep. _________________ ...coming out of the murky, dreary jungle of untutored mediocrity. |

Both teams man-to-man. Saadia guarding Omogrosso. Justine on Vojinovic. Fast paced.
Under 5 timeout, 8-7, Cats. Mackenzie has 6 and assisted on the other basket. Duquesne getting too many orebs.
End of 1st qtr, 16-13, Dukes. Pretty good quarter overall, but we need to get sharper on offense like we were at the start of the period. Duquesne is a good passing team, taking advantage when we blitz the high ball screen. _________________ ...coming out of the murky, dreary jungle of untutored mediocrity. |

2nd qtr, 3:22 left, 31-28, Dukes. Offense good, 3's keeping us close. Kianna has 11, Mackenzie with 8. Defense needs to be better, not an easy task against this team.
Halftime, 39-34, Dukes. Fun half. Offense still good, theirs better.
Kianna has 11. Mackenzie with 10 pts and 5 rebs. Minus 8 on the boards, that has hurt us. Plus 1 on turnovers. Davidson 43% FG, 44% 3FG. Duquesne 50% FG, 37% 3FG. They have a lot of easy buckets inside. We have yet to shoot a FT. _________________ ...coming out of the murky, dreary jungle of untutored mediocrity. |

3rd qtr, Cats come out cold, 44-34.
Under 5 timeout, 48-43. Cats trailed by 12 after the flagrant-1 on Saadia, then Justine went on a 7-0 run. Cats pressing to speed up the game, getting some turnovers and "not their shots" shots from the Dukes. _________________ ...coming out of the murky, dreary jungle of untutored mediocrity.

The AAA guy got my car running and told me to let it run for a half hour to forty-five minutes, so I drove around town and looked at remaining Christmas lights, since idling that long is not good for a car. As cold as it was, I didn't risk cutting it off until it was back in the garage, and I'll see what happens when I try to crank it in the morning. I didn't have my game ticket with me anyway, so I didn't consider stopping in for the rest of the game. I tried to access the video from my computer, but it needed Flash. I remember that from a previous century.
I don't know how much to trust the car. It's not like something was broken and then it was repaired. I'll be less risk-averse when it is over 23 degrees outside. _________________ Μεγάλη ἡμÎÏα εἶναι ΛÏγξ |

4 minutes left, 3rd qtr, Justine extends her run to 9-0. 48-45, Dukes. Davidson continues to press, and we are in the bonus.
End of 3rd qtr, 53-48, Dukes, who have 20 turnovers for the game and committed 9 fouls that period. Justine has 12 now. _________________ ...coming out of the murky, dreary jungle of untutored mediocrity. |

4th qtr, 8 minutes left, 8-0 run, and it's suddenly 61-48. Ugh.
6:30 left, 66-50. Three Cat turnovers already this qtr.
2 minutes left, 76-54. Really struggling at both ends, kinda snowballed after that bad start to the quarter.
** Final, 79-54. We played pretty well for three quarters.
Mackenzie had 14 pts, 8 rebs, 3 asts, 1 blk and 5 stls. Justine with 12 pts, 5 rebs, 3 asts, 2 stls. Kianna with 11 pts and 2 stls.
Killed on the boards, 46-28. Dukes shot 9-17 from deep, a lot of that from their bigs, which was not expected. No made threes in the 2nd half for us.

Outscored by 20 in the 4th. We had 11 players play tonight. A 12th should return relatively soon. _________________ "McKillop is a gentleman. He could have played 'name that score' if he so desired."---St Joe's fan |

Idling long periods of time should not be a big problem if it is a computer-module, fuel-injected car.
You just had a low battery. Not a big deal even if you need a new one. _________________ "There ain't no sanity clause!" Chico Marx |

We'll see. The battery is maybe a year old. When Tim and I looked at it before I left, there was a lot of corrosion on the positive terminal. The previous battery didn't do that. Oddly, when the guy and I saw it tonight, the corrosion was about gone. I didn't know it was somehow self-cleaning.
But, yes, the battery was low, and obviously not being driven for over a month didn't help. What I don't know is whether the corrosion sapped its strength or there was an underlying undiagnosed problem.
And I did enjoy driving around. I hadn't seen much of Davidson in a while, and a pleasantly surprising amount of Christmas decorations were still lit up. And come to think of it, I hadn't driven in over a month. (Ridden in buses, planes, vans, cars, taxis, Uber, a helicopter, a cable thing to a mountain top, and a submarine, but didn't drive/pilot any of them. I could have added a hot air balloon ride at the safari park, but didn't allow enough time.)
I usually walk to Sunday afternoon games, but not night games, because my best route is a trail through the woods, and never when it is 23 degrees. _________________ Μεγάλη ἡμÎÏα εἶναι ΛÏγξ |

I was at the game and had the great fortune to sit with the lovely and immensely talented Jen O'Brien.
We both concluded that we simply ran out of gas against a better team. We played very well for three periods. Had nothing left in the fourth.
URI is definitely a winnable game. I will be disappointed if we don't earn a "W" this weekend. _________________ "I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing Astroturf and the designated hitter."

We were in this game solidly for 3 quarters and I agree with previous posters, we just simply ran out of gas after a great effort against one of the better teams in the A10. The effort this team gives is fun to watch and I hate to use that word "scrappy" but they are. Also considering besides being good, Duquesne is a heavily senior, junior group. We are mostly freshmen and sophomores. We are also very well coached. That being said, if you are not doing much on this coming Sunday at 2:00, they are worth a look. |
