2 pm start at home, Thursday, Dec 21.
#171 at #264. 32% chance. 70-64.
The 49'ers are 3-7. Best win was against #56 Duquesne early in the season. Worst loss was at #265 East Carolina.
They've played to the level of their competition in quite a few games -- the two games above, plus close losses at #108, at #99, to #33, and a close win at #424.
Three double figure scorers, plus another at 9+. They rebound well, plus 4 for the season against a good schedule. 42% 2FG, 33% 3FG, 64% FT.
If memory serves, last year's Charlotte game was Justine's breakout game. She had 30. Mackenzie chipped in 28.

Cats playing man-to-man, doubling on the low block. UNCC, 2-3 zone.
6-2, Cats up early.
Under 5 timeout, 10-10. Mackenzie has 6, Justine with 4, Ally has picked up 2 early fouls.
49ers with a half court press, and pushing the ball up on offense. Need to get back, stop the ball.
End of 1st qtr, 21-20, UNCC. Still not getting back on D well enough, and not staying in front of their PG from Spain. Playing well overall, though. Justine and Mackenzie with 7 apiece. Hanging in there on the boards with 11 for each team. Mackenzie with 5. _________________ ...coming out of the murky, dreary jungle of untutored mediocrity. |

2nd qtr, under 5 timeout, 31-28, Cats. UNCC sticking with their zone. Cats have hit 4 threes, 3 of them by Katie. Cat bigs all with at least two fouls. Mackenzie in double figures with 12.
Halftime, 36-35, UNCC, who are cashing in at the line with 14 made FTs. Six Wildcats have at least 2 fouls. Defense and getting back better, offense struggled late that quarter. 12 Cat turnovers, 13 for the 49ers. We are plus 5 on the boards, plus 3 on assists.
Mackenzie has 14 pts and 8 rebs. Katie with 9 pts and 5 asts. Justine, 7 pts and 3 asts.
Several of our turnovers have been "bad live ball turnovers" trying to get the ball into their zone. Can't give them easy buckets or trips to the line. 49ers are 4-8 from deep. _________________ ...coming out of the murky, dreary jungle of untutored mediocrity.

They are taller and more physical. We are winning the hustle stats. One ref went almost the whole first half without calling a foul on the 'Ers. |

3rd qtr, Cats have started by attacking the basket, pressing.
Under 5 timeout, 46-42, UNCC. Offense still struggling, not getting many good looks, missing those we do get. _________________ ...coming out of the murky, dreary jungle of untutored mediocrity.

** Mackenzie has advanced on two lists today, I think. Details later.
End of 3rd qtr, 52-48. Offense perked up a bit at the end. Defense playing well, despite all the foul calls against us.
Mackenzie has a double-double, 17 and 10, per Live Stats. She has moved up a spot on the points list, and is now tied with Dakota on the rebounds list.
Katie and Justine each in double figures with 11. _________________ ...coming out of the murky, dreary jungle of untutored mediocrity.

4th qtr, Cats go to a zone.
Now back to man, 7-0 run, 55-52, Cats.
Back to zone. 49ers looking a bit befuddled on offense.
4:50 left, 59-57, Cats.
4:02, 62-57.
3:28, 64-60.
1:55, 64-62, 49ers to inbound. They promptly turn it over.
1:34, Justine to the line for a pair... miss, make, 65-62, Cats.
50 seconds, 66-65, UNCC. Davidson to inbound after a timeout. Both teams in the bonus.
** Katie hits a huge three, 68-66, Cats. UNCC calls timeout, 20 seconds left, 12 seconds on the shot clock.
9 seconds, UNCC to the line... miss, miss. Chloe gets the board, she's fouled, 5 seconds left.
Chloe to the line... miss, timeout Davidson. One more FT coming.
Chloe misses the second, rebound to UNCC, timeout, 4.6 seconds left.
Jump ball, 2.4 seconds, UNCC ball, timeout.
** Final, 68-66, Cats win! UNCC got a great look but didn't convert. Excellent win, a nice present heading into the break. _________________ ...coming out of the murky, dreary jungle of untutored mediocrity.

Mackenzie led the way with 23 pts, 12 rebs, 2 stls, 1 blk. She's now 7th on the scoring list, and 5th on the rebounds list.
Katie had 17 pts -- including the game winner -- and 5 asts. She was 5-8 from deep overall. Justine with 19 pts, 4 rebs, 2 stls, and 7 asts. Chloe had 6 rebs and 4 asts.
Only 4 second half turnovers and a 25 to 14 edge in pts off turnovers. 16 assists on 23 baskets.
Cats travel to Orlando to play #94 UCF after Christmas. _________________ ...coming out of the murky, dreary jungle of untutored mediocrity. |

Blimey, we play hard and we play with intensity. So refreshing to see after the past few years.
We are becoming fun to watch again.

If anyone doesn't believe that a new coach and staff can make a difference in a team.....then look no farther than the Davidson Women's basketball team. The hustle, enthusiasm and team play is so obviously different AND BETTER. Coach is always teaching and bringing positive energy to the team. If you had given up on the Lady Wildcats I encourage you to take another look, this team is fun to watch. |

It had been so long since I had been to a game in person I had not seen one with quarters. Who knew they shoot 2 free throws on the 5th team foul? It used to be 1 and 1 on the 5th and 2 on the 7th way back when we played by torchlight and the stats were kept on slate with chalk.
We played hard and tough. That was a great win for the team to think about and tell their families and friends about before the UCF game. |

Thanks Chantilly! I was having a severe problem with LiveStats, as it didn't want to update. So, particularly in those last few minutes, I was going in and out of LiveStats to get the updates and doing likewise with your narrative. Nice Christmas present! Maybe that comeback against High Point began to foster greater confidence and more aggressive play. Would love to see it carry over to the men's team. |
