Wednesday, 7 pm, at our place.
Elon will be a handful inside. 5-9 SR G Shay Burnett is the CAA pre-season player of the year and averages 13.8 ppg and 8.8 rpg. They also have 6-4 SO C Ra'Shika White (13.5 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 2.5 bpg) and 6-3 SR C Malaya Johnson (11.1 ppg, 6.3 rpg). As a team, they outrebound opponents by 16 per game.
Their record is 5-2. Losses are to #25 Iowa (neutral site) and at #133 Wake Forest. Best wins were against #78 Alabama (neutral site) and at #101 UCF.
As of this morning, #62 at #252. 69-55. 12% chance. _________________ ...coming out of the murky, dreary jungle of untutored mediocrity. |

Unfortunately this one is going to be ugly. Hopefully we can catch them on a bad day. |

Good that it is inside, since it might rain. I don't know that I'll get there, though. I don't usually walk to night games, especially if it is cold and wet, and I have a lot to do the next couple of days.
I don't have time to mess with getting my car going, and it will just sit in the garage for the rest of the year anyway. _________________ Μεγάλη ἡμÎÏα εἶναι ΛÏγξ |

Starters... Katie, Saadia, Justine, Ally, Mackenzie
Both teams man-to-man, Cats also pressuring full court.
2:08 left 1st qtr, 12-11, Elon, which will shoot a pair after the timeout. Both teams not wasting any time getting shots up. Cats have attempted 9 treys already, made 3 of them.
End of 1st qtr, 18-17, Cats, who are 7-8 from the FT line thanks to 7 Elon fouls. Boards about even so far. Ra'Shika White is having her way inside, we'll have to adjust there somehow, either double her or make it tougher to get her the ball. _________________ ...coming out of the murky, dreary jungle of untutored mediocrity. |

2nd qtr, 5 minutes left. 24-20, Elon. Refs a bit whistle happy. Justine and Mackenzie each with 2 fouls and 7 points, both on the bench. Katie has 5 pts.
Halftime, 34-26, Elon. Refs making this one hard to watch. 34 FTs already. Mckenzie and Justine both went back in the game, Justine quickly picked up her 3rd. White picked up her 2nd for Elon and left the game, but now getting hurt inside by Malaya Johnson. Minus 4 on the boards, minus 4 in turnovers.
Mackenzie has 11 pts and 5 rebs. Justine has 9 pts, Katie with 5. Ally and Andrea also in foul trouble with 2 and 3, respectively. _________________ ...coming out of the murky, dreary jungle of untutored mediocrity. |

Dang that’s a lot of fouls, not a bad margin at the half though. Hopefully we can make it through the second half without being excessively limited by foul trouble. |

We were getting FT points until Kyla missed four in a row. Now 9-14 from the line. We also hit three 3's in the 1st qtr, none in the second. Need to be better offensively to beat these good teams, and that's tough without Mackenzie and Justine on the floor.
No Sarah Donovan tonight, apparently. _________________ ...coming out of the murky, dreary jungle of untutored mediocrity. |

3rd qtr, defensive assignments shuffled to keep Justine on the floor.
5:49 left, 43-32, Elon. Burnett starting to heat up for the Phoenix.
1:17, 54-38. Burnett and Justine both on the bench with four fouls.
End of three, 54-40. 16 for Justine, 14 for Mackenzie, Katie has 9. _________________ ...coming out of the murky, dreary jungle of untutored mediocrity. |

4th qtr, Burnett just fouled out.
Cats pressuring, they get the steal and 3-pt play from Justine with 7:08 left, 56-45.
2:40 left, 70-51, Mackenzie and Justine both gone with 5 fouls.
** Final, 75-58. This <whistle> was not <whistle> my <whistle> favorite set <whistle> of <whistle> officials <whistle> so far <whistle> this season.
In between all the stoppages in play, a terrific offensive game from Justine, 22 pts in 21 minutes on 6-8 from the floor and 7-7 FTs, plus 6 rebs. Mackenzie with 14 pts and 6 rebs. Katie also with 14 pts, along with 3 rebs and 3 asts. 24 Davidson turnovers, 22 for Elon. Lost the glass by 9. Only 14 assists between the two teams. Only 5 Wildcats scored points tonight.
Combined 55 fouls called, 68 FTs attempted.
Next game is Gardner-Webb, a week from Friday, in the Arener. _________________ ...coming out of the murky, dreary jungle of untutored mediocrity. |

Just got back from the arener.
Random thoughts:
* Officiating was uniformly awful - on both sides. Absolutely no flow to the game.
* We play really really hard. It appears we have "buy in" with the new coaching staff.
* We are pretty good defensively.
* Freshmen players do some really perplexing things.
* We are challenged on offense.
* Elon didn't look like a Top 100 team tonight. We didn't look like a Top 200 team tonight.
* You could have rolled a cannon into Baker, filled it with birdshot, fired it, and not hit anybody in the stands. Miserable attendance.
* We still have trouble getting the correct players listed on the scoreboard. _________________ "I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing Astroturf and the designated hitter."
