Are we going to play zone? If not can Uncle K cover the 4? Is Luke quick enough to cover the 3? And is Luka physical enough to guard the 5? I'm skeptical.

Maybe we can get by with man but zone is the definite way to go at least from my perspective. The teams seems almost perfectly set up to play zone too in terms of length and 2/3 capable rim protectors. |
I hope our rim protectors end up being more than 2/3 capable. |
Yep, was hoping to see NBY tonight because he's a part of that equation. |
I know we love our math here but I meant we have 2 or 3 capable rim protectors on any given day (it really should be 3 or 4 because I forgot NBY). |

Thats awesome, being able to watch a replay of the game the same day after getting home from work is perfect. |

Landry and Logan's dad, Len, was the first I ever saw use it. Simple and deadly. No pivot, no step. No worry about a dribble or a travel call. Just catch, use body and length to create opening, and flip wrist from 4 feet. At 7', often didn't even have to jump. _________________ "Then they started making 3s. A lot of 3s. Assume Dusan needs some time? If healthy he’s a real sleeper |

The new lighting reportedly looks great on ESPN. In person, it is brutal from certain areas. We'll have lots of fans in ball caps this year.
Having the option of beer is great.
The new SRO lobby area is great.
Gonna be fun. |
Agreed on all. from the lower level sideline, the lights are brutal if you look into them. Also looked darker on the West side of arena. |

Nothing really flashed to me as in "That guy dominated" and yet we won by 60. Now of course the competition wasnt great. But there was a nice balance of options offensively. Excited for Tuesday. |

Almost everyone who will get major minutes is a scorer. Kellan and JAG will obviously be the 1st and 2nd options but I think we will see multiple guys occupy the third spot night to night. David, Mike Jones, Frampton, KP, and Luka are all guys who can score 15 (or more) any given night. |

Ismo Leikola has some funny thoughts on this subject. Wonder if Jouni Eho had the same problems. |

Interesting re the lights, on ESPN+ i thought it looked incredibly dark, like we were in a cave almost. Way dimmer than the normal type of broadcast you see on TV. |

All of the starters lived up to my high expectations. (I commented on others in the 45 thread.)
Afterward a former player excitedly described to me what he liked about Luke’s play. I would characterize the quality he described as poise, confidence, no nonsense knowing what to do. The shooting was good, too, but that quality was impressive in his first actual game.
JAG demonstrated his leadership in several ways. After some words with CC, I think it was, he walked to the end of the bench to make sure everything was OK, so it appeared.
JAG and Kellan seemed to be going out of their way to smile at one another. A friendly rivalry is probably a good thing, if that is what was going on. When Kellan was first to 20, JAG drove to the basket to catch up.
Luka justified our excitement when we heard he would be playing here. _________________ Μεγάλη ἡμÎÏα εἶναι ΛÏγξ |

A few observations from Thursday:
- Kellan and JAG are ready to go. Kellan had a few instances when he showed why the “NBA nonsense†is a thing: the speed burst to intercept a pass early, the wicked fake (not a crossover because he didn’t dribble) to create space, and several acrobatic and athletic attacks of the basket. JAG has perfected his brand of hard-nosed ball. They make a very fine backcourt.
- Luka plays with joy and is fun to watch. As Coach and others have said, he has great hands. He’s more active and willing to mix it up than some other recent Davidson bigs. That combination of good hands and aggression will gain the team some unexpected possessions. He almost stole the ball from the W&L guards one time, grinning while doing it (despite Kevin K. frantically telling him to get back on defense).
- Luke was a bit frustrated in the first half. I get the impression he’s a perfectionist. He’s a very careful and precise passer, and he seems to be annoyed by sloppy passes. His shooting exhibition in the second half was fun to watch. He’s going to be a player.
- KP was rather passive. Coach seemed to take more minutes from him than anyone else in order to get the new guys time.
- Ekwu is moving much better than I expected. But he doesn’t have the same explosiveness he once did.
- DCz’s shot flutters softly through the net. It’s beautiful.
- I thought MJ looked a bit lost out there. I have confidence in his ability to contribute, but he still needs to learn to run the system. When he fell down, he looked scared. He had the same dazed and confused look in his eyes as a Davidson fan looking across Belk Arena to spot a fan in another section only to be blinded by the new lighting. |
