There is a pick your own berry farm between Asheboro and Ramseur ( named for DC alum who transferred to West Point and died young in Civil War) just off US 64. They have a corn maze and apple picking in the fall. They have a camel year round- except on FB days in Buie's Creek when he is the official Fighting Camel mascot. |

Stephen Dodson Ramseur. He was born in Lincoln County. He went to Davidson for one year and did not think much of the school. He secured a place at West Point and graduated in 1859.
He was very popular at West Point and had many friends from all parts of the US. After graduating, he became a virulent secessionist. He resigned from the US Army and joined the CSA in 1861.
He moved up quickly in the ranks and eventually became a General. He was mortally wounded at the battle of Cedar Creek in in the Shenandoah Valley in October 1864. The wagon he was being transported in was captured by USA troops. He was taken to a Union hospital and was visited by several West Point schoolmates, including George Custer.
His wounds proved fatal. He was called "Dodson" or "Dod" by all who knew him well. He was survived by his widow and an infant daughter. |

I have visited his grave in Lincolnton. I imagine he is kin to my Davidson classmate Rick Ramseur and to my grandmother.
As I recall, he didn’t marry the one Morrison girl who didn’t marry a Confederate officer. _________________ Μεγάλη ἡμÎÏα εἶναι ΛÏγξ |

Thanks BDF! That works. I suspect Katz should interview Bob McKillop some time and find out what TCC is all about. Katz seems to be very much into the "star" system and didn't want to listen to what Kellan was saying about the team. They obviously have BIG shoes to fill, but it sounds like they have confidence in each other and know how important it will be for everyone to stay healthy. Thankfully, their first two outings are at home against two school with a 3 - 29 record on the road last year. It should help their confidence and teach the what they can do together. |

What we forget sometimes when we're worrying about Davidson replacing one or more seniors with a bunch of untried freshmen is that the returning players, however good they were the previous year, get better the following year.
My "concern" going forward is that the "bigs" next year won't all be shooters the way they were this past year. At least not right away. The tendency at Davidson is for bigs to be shooters by the time they're seniors, however bad they may have been before. For example, anyone who thought freshman, sophomore or even junior Martin Ides was going to become a threat was engaging in TCCBF, with the last two being a Claptonless Blind Faith. |

I wanted to learn some more about Luke, so I googled him. Interestingly, especially for kool-aid people, the AAU tournament in which he was co MVP had some really good players in it. Among the all stars of the tournament were Jalek Felton formerly of UNC (kicked off team), Joey Baker now a freshman at Duke (went to prep last year) and Lindell Wiggenton of Iowa State. Three of the all stars of the tourney went to Marshall, including the other co MVP. |

ESPN had a scout at the CP3 camp who wrote some notes about it and mentioned Kellan https://twitter.com/Mike_Schmitz/status/1026112946252865538
Quote: | • Davidson's 6-4 shotmaker Kellan Grady -- who turned in a monster freshman season -- looked fairly ordinary through the four sessions we attended. With nice size, decent length and shooting touch, it's no surprise that Grady had some huge games as a 20-year-old freshman. He does a nice job catching in rhythm and rising into 3s, releasing the ball with rotation and touch. He can also create some space with step-backs in quick-action situations or attack a closeout with long strides to the rim, finishing effectively. When asked to operate on the ball, though, Grady struggled. He's not overly shifty and is more of an off-guard at this stage. He would really benefit from expanding his ball-screen scoring and playmaking to avoid being pigeonholed as a one-dimensional shooter, even if he showed strong all-around scoring instincts at Davidson. |
I disagree strongly about his overall game, but if this is an indication of how the league feels about him, it means we may get more years from him. All I can say is I’m pumped whether he’s here for three more years or one, and I personally would take him over many guards in the country |

Experience this season as more of a point guard could help him further develop those skills, I would expect. _________________ Μεγάλη ἡμÎÏα εἶναι ΛÏγξ |

He is effective as an off guard and the team benefits from him filling that role. And I would venture to guess that coach will stick with 3 headed PG approach that he took last year. So I would further guess that KG's opportunities to work on those skills in game time situations will be somewhat limited. He will likely benefit from a couple years of drills and camps and self driven routines. Much the same way other DC greats have developed their games. He is certainly smart enough, has the BB IQ, is talented enough and committed to his craft to succeed.
It will be a whole lot of fun to watch him develop over the next few years. He is going to amaze us over and over again, and I for one, am looking forward to it. |

Grady has an incredible knack for letting the game come to him and not forcing. Sometimes that can be viewed incorrectly as a weakness. |

Later this month we will likely learn whether the coaches are sticking by their earlier comments. Either way I don’t see the three-headed approach going away completely as long as JAG and Kishawn are around.
There is precedent for grooming a shooting guard with PG experience. _________________ Μεγάλη ἡμÎÏα εἶναι ΛÏγξ |
