Jag and Luka very effectively ran the pick and roll during the Red/Black game. Jag passes really well off of it, and Luka has really good hands.
I wonder if Bob is reluctant to run it early in the season though, as it is pretty different than our typical motion offense. I wonder if he fears that putting it in before everyone is comfortable running the base set could lead to too much standing around. There seems to be precedent for this. Jack and Will ran a bunch of pick and rolls in February of Jack's senior season, but not much early in the year. We also haven't seen much of the clear out for Kellan play where four guys stand on the opposite side of the floor and watch. It would not surprise me if in both of these instances, Bob wants to have the good habits very firmly ingrained before he starts calling plays that require guys to stand to the side and watch. _________________ This is a post by BDF, not BDL. |

That seems a reasonable thought, but to my eyes we had pick-and-roll action several times in the last game but the middle was so clogged up there was no pass. If I get a chance, I'll go back and review the game recording. Maybe I didn't see what I saw. _________________ "There ain't no sanity clause!" Chico Marx |

After the UNCC game:
Another game in which no player at the 5 position took a 3-point shot.
I tried to look for pick-and-roll action tonight. Didn't see much. A little with Ekwu.
If Luka stays healthy he could end up as one of our all-time great players. Excellent court sense. Would love to see him in a few more pick-and-roll situations.
I would like to see a few more minutes from Bates. There is potential there.
Thought it odd that Dusan played so little. I guess when Ekwu is having a good game, you ride him. _________________ "There ain't no sanity clause!" Chico Marx

Please clarify for those clueless as to the ways of sport, such as I:
How were Luka's and Nate's points scored if not by shooting? Neatness? Punctuality? Good looks?
Or are you referring to a geographic position on the floor that no one physically occupied at any moment when shooting? _________________ Μεγάλη ἡμÎÏα εἶναι ΛÏγξ |

I'm sorry, I was trying to say 3-point shot. I will edit my post. _________________ "There ain't no sanity clause!" Chico Marx |

Luka has a great shooting stroke. He time will come. There will be a point on this board where we will be amazed that he used to not take 3's in a game. |

Charlotte guarded both Luka and Nate more closely outside than other teams have. JAG and Kellan took advantage. _________________ This is a post by BDF, not BDL. |

Yes, they doubled Luka in the post quite a bit. He did a good job of finding an open man. |

Agree, he had one cross court pass out of a post double team to an open JAG that had me smiling and shaking my head. Not typically the right play to try to throw it cross-court over the defense, but in that situation it was pretty incredible court vision / awareness.
Luke's no slouch with regards to court vision / passing either. He had a couple moments last night that were pretty special. Watching him, it feels like he's a step ahead mentally with his court awareness. Its almost like a QB who seemingly gets through his reads a split second faster than everyone else. It visibly frustrates him at times when that vision is limited by a teammate not getting to the spot he sees or he is limited by his own body at this point. He's going to be a beast - he only shot 3-10 last night but several of the misses felt 'in-and-out' to me....he easily could have gone for 20 last night. |

There are moments like those in our game that are aesthetically pleasing, whatever the eventual basketball consequences. (Reason No. 47 that I enjoy watching Wildcat basketball) _________________ Μεγάλη ἡμÎÏα εἶναι ΛÏγξ |

If teams got points for these, we'd score 100+ every game. _________________ “Yeah, well, you know, that’s just, like, your opinion, man.†— Jeff Bridges as The Dude in "The Big Lebowski" |
