Also what word has the most letters with a single vowel?

On an alumni river cruise in Holland, I noticed that they use the word “hof†in some compound. Our host was a German prof, and I asked about the basic meaning of Hof in German. I knew compounds like Bahnhof and Hofbrauhaus and such that gave me no more clue than did the Dutch word.
I admit I was asking rather casually and didn’t bother with trying my best German on one word in an English sentence. He chided me for the diphthong in my pronunciation and talked of the struggle he has with that from his students. I said, “I’m from Shelby, NC. I did well to get it down to two.†_________________ Μεγάλη ἡμÎÏα εἶναι ΛÏγξ |
