Boise State players Oregon twice this season. _________________ That didn’t happen.

Monday's Boston Herald says:
Walters settles in
At first, he wasn’t sure, but it was around September when Shaquille Walters, who transferred from Santa Clara to Northeastern this season, expressed an interest to play immediately. He talked to coach Bill Coen, who was deliberate in making sure Walters assessed all the factors in his decision.
Walters was certain he wanted to play, but it requires a process. NCAA rules state transfers must sit out a year at their new school before playing, but exceptions are made. Northeastern’s compliance office applied for a waiver for Walters, and last Tuesday, the Huskies received good news. The waiver was granted, and Walters is eligible to play this season.
The circumstances that allowed Walters to be granted eligibility are confidential, but Coen assured that “if anyone heard the facts of the story, I don’t think anybody would disagree with the ruling.
“We’re just so grateful that the NCAA agreed with us that he should be allowed to play immediately.â€
Walters, a 6-foot-6 sophomore guard from London, made his debut in Northeastern’s win against Alabama last Thursday and made an impact off the bench. Coen loves his potential.
“He’s got tremendous upside, he’s got size, length, athleticism, and most of all, coachability,†Coen said. “He wants to be a good player, he allows you to coach him, and I think with that type of attitude and the type of effort he puts in, we couldn’t be more excited about him.â€
Stuck in limbo
Shawn Occeus and Max Boursiquot, both starters for Northeastern last season, remain out with injuries, and their returns are unclear.
Coen was more optimistic about Occeus, last season’s Colonial Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Year who suffered an ankle sprain in practice the day before this season’s opener against Boston University. Boursiquot is dealing with a nagging hip injury. _________________ "McKillop is a gentleman. He could have played 'name that score' if he so desired."---St Joe's fan |

If Northeastern is #122, how does that figure as a victory against a top 100? |

The selection committee looks at end-of-season rankings/RPI/BPI or whatever, and Northeastern figures to get much better as the season progresses and their injured players get back online. _________________ "We should've thrown our number 7 pitcher against Davidson......" KenPom has them as the #99 team in the country. Once Pusica is back and their schedule clears up they'll start winning games by the handful. |

RPI/Kenyon/Massey is all meaningless for at-large purposes. The NCAA is cooking up a new evaluation tool called “NET†that’s takes into account things like offensive and defensive efficiency, margin of victory as well as strength of schedule and game location. Until we know how that formula shakes out, we have no idea how good any of our wins are. _________________ This is a post by BDF, not BDL. |

We'll watch this play out, but if what I've read and heard is close to the mark, what NET mainly appears to take into account is whether you're in a top power conference. We may be downward-adjusting our cutoff lines for at-large qualification because some of the rankings above the line will be of power conference teams that can't qualify because they have losing records.
Stan's gonna love it. |

Predictions for today:
David and Carter won't outscore the five starters in the first half.
Jeb Hartness won't explain to Coach about how he "didn't see anything" when a Wildcat jersey gets pulled right in front of him.
Kellan will go off.
JAG will go off.
Career game for Nelson. _________________ "McKillop is a gentleman. He could have played 'name that score' if he so desired."---St Joe's fan |
