Dang! Disappointment, but that is a step in the right direction, when expectation of a loss used to be the dominant mindset. |

So many teaching moments. I listened to game on the radio and it sounded like we were not very good today. Lots of mental mistakes, poorly timed penalties, a punt muff, and missed opportunities. And we still almost won.
We've got a lot to work on which is a good thing.
We have a looooong way to go. But we are so much better than we were. _________________ "I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing Astroturf and the designated hitter."

Morehead adjusted better at halftime. Refs had a rough second half, especially on holding calls. We helped Morehead with that 4th and 3 attempt from our own 48. They quickly turned that into 7 points. Last year's team would have lost that game by a wide margin. _________________ "McKillop is a gentleman. There were some bad calls in the 2nd half. The refs would make a bad call and then would try to even it up.
There was a really bad pass interference call when Morehead was driving. Later, they gave us a first down on a 4th down run when it appeared our runner was tackled 2 yards short of the line.
Late in the game, we threw an INT and there was a personal foul after the play ended. They gave us the ball and the yardage. 2 former Wildcats players sitting with me thought it would be their ball.
When the other team is inside our 20, we need to emphasize to our DBs they have to turn around when the pass is in the air. We commit a lot of pass interference penalties in the end zone. We're not getting beaten deep in that situation.
If the punt they "downed" on the 1 is a legal play, why haven't I seen Alabama do that? They punted from midfield. One of their players caught it on the fly at the 1 and ran into the end zone. The refs put it on the 1. Why do players try so hard to down the ball on the 1 if they can run it into end zone? |

There seemed to be more former players on hand than usual. I met Steve Smith. There were rowdy young alums taking issue with most calls, many of those justified, and razzing the opponents.
A player from the ‘70s comes to a game each year to see how good he might feel about his contributions based on what progress he sees.
A couple of miscues were devastating. Without them we might have won by a touchdown or two. One called back a touchdown, and another gave them the ball, which led to a score. _________________ Μεγάλη ἡμÎÏα εἶναι ΛÏγξ |

Perhaps the most consistently inept officiating I have seen in over 65 years of playing and watching football at all levels. Bordered on incompetent. Really egregious calls throughout the game - both sides. It just so happened that the bad, missed calls hurt us more than Morehead. They would make a bad call then then try to almost immediately compensate with another bad one. Am sure our report on officiating will reflect that. Hard to believe that that crew is competent to officiate SoCon games (they were a SoCon crew) - or jr. high for that matter.
Having said that, victory was right there - just needed to make another play or three. I thought the play of their DB's was the difference - especially their safety #3 (btw he's a redshirt senior)
Lot of positives. Now we get ready for Marist.

Even I could tell how bad the officiating was.
But it did make me wonder what actually does constitute pass interference. Maybe I'll look that up for my future reference. If any of you have a handy link, I'd appreciate that. I certainly would not have a clue from what was called and not called yesterday.
Holding by their offense seemed to be the most frequent no call. _________________ Μεγάλη ἡμÎÏα εἶναι ΛÏγξ |

My two cents.....
Again a great battle by the Cats. This game would have probably been a big blowout loss in many of the past years but this team has learned to battle.
Morehead had a very solid QB and some great receivers.
I was again impressed by the Cat's effort to block another extra point.
I like about 99% what this staff is doing but I do not understand the kick off strategy. Our pooch kick is constantly giving the opponent the ball on the 35- 45 yard line. Not good.
It was football player alum weekend so there was more old Cats hanging around.
We have to get the word out. There was a nice crowd but the Cats are playing some very exciting football. If you haven't come to a game yet, plan a weekend. Let's fill this up the stadium.
Several calls against the Cats were really bad.
1. There was no roughing the punter. From where I was sitting in the stands I could see our player never touched the punter. The official was in the wrong position and got blocked out and only saw the punter's acting routine.
2. Pretty sure there was no pass interference on that critical play either.
3. As previous stated, I would like someone to explain Morehead's final punt sequence. As stated, their cover man caught the ball on the 1 but continued into the end zone with the momentum of the catch. I thought the Cats would get the ball on the 20.
Overall another solid outing with the majority of plays on the field going well. With a few extra players, more depth, and experience......these Cats could become very good.
PS: Can someone get the official microphone to work correctly? It would help to at least get some explanation of the bizarre call. _________________ "They were energized by this move to the A-10. How could you not be?" McKillop said. "The tree is filled with a lot of presents." |

I should have figured that. As with other sports, I really enjoyed having knowledgeable guys sitting near me. It was the second game I watched from behind the end zone, and I stayed partly because of the casual commentary I was overhearing, and of course I met nice folks who are passionate about Davidson football.

Graveline should be able to do something with that. _________________ "We should've thrown our number 7 pitcher against Davidson......" Post by Tar Heel baseball fan 16 minutes into the game. |

very poor officiating; however the personal foul call that reversed the Morehead State interception was not a dead ball foul, it was roughing the passer. and the crucial PI call looked good to me; the Wildcat DB put his hand on the MSU receiver shoulder and gave a little shove--looked it caused the MS receiver to go down. I hated it but that's what I saw. Now there was a terrible no-call on PI when Cats had the ball that a killed a drive _________________ Let's go Mens |

We really could use a video board now that these games are more competitive.
Pass interference call Meh, but I would like to look at it again.
We thought the PI on the hit on Phelps was after they gained possession with the interception.
The roughing the punter was a joke. _________________ "They were energized by this move to the A-10. How could you not be?" McKillop said. "The tree is filled with a lot of presents." |
