Jumping off to Trenton - where the Christmas party won the Revolutionary War - Amtrak to DC then onto to Roanoke - more substance, less route to follow. _________________ All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for men of good will to do nothing. Eddie Burke

I will miss this event. I've heard Bob's version of things a couple of times lately already, and there are several alternative events here for the evening. Usually the archaeology lectures are on Tuesday nights when I can't go. This week it is on Thursday: "Revolt! Why the Jews Took on Rome." At bridge this afternoon, I told Scott Woodmansee about it, and a neighbor expressed interest and mentioned that he is Jewish, as one reason for the interest.
I will miss hearing Gayle. And I certainly would enjoy hearing Bob again, even if I didn't learn anything new. And I'll miss seeing those of you whom I haven't talked with recently. And wftc will miss another opportunity to criticize my apparel. _________________ Μεγάλη ἡμÎÏα εἶναι ΛÏγξ |

First, the downer - who cancelled Fall? not a single brightly colored leaf seen from Jersey to the Mountains of Virginia; apparently, it is not tuff being Green.
Now the trip highlight - traveling companion described - "she arrives...dressed casually in white tee, jeans, Gabriela Hearst scarf and ... silver Birkenstocks. Yes, actress, Diane Lane is a Hollywood goddess in Gizehs." Alexa Fashion Section, Cover story, NY Post.
Clearly, beauty knows no age, even if not from nature. _________________ All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for men of good will to do nothing. Eddie Burke

You can curse the rains down in North Carolina. It was too wet at the wrong time to have fall color. _________________ Μεγάλη ἡμÎÏα εἶναι ΛÏγξ |

And if it did, it wasn’t that bad.
And if it was, that’s not a big deal.
And if it is, that’s not my fault.

And if I did…
You deserved it.

For those who couldn't attend the event last night, here our my impressions of the evening:
Entire roster practiced this week, Coach said first time in over a year he could say this, but several players have time limitations each practice.
Going to play 4 guards together a lot early this season
Luka will start will start next Thursday against W&L and also against Tennessee in the scrimmage.
Coach said something to the effect of that the best combinations of players would be on the court together rather than the best 5 players.
He mentioned challenging some players who haven't been rotation players in the past to assume specific roles to get on the court, such as be a shut down defender on the perimeter, or be the next Rusty Riegel (which I assume means hustle and be in the right place at the the right time and set the pick, dive for the ball, ect.)
Coach can still deliver an inspirational talk
New AD is a breath of fresh air
Lady's coach is enthusiastic and looks very young, not that there is anything wrong with that.
Food was outstanding
Draft selections were good also, Port City Porter was very....refreshing
Looking forward to opening tip |

Good coverage of topics by TOK, but I will add one thing: in response to a question about Kellan's chances of leaving early for the NBA, Coach said that at least one NBA scout has been in attendance during most of the practices and that Kellan is striving to find the balance of staying humble and focused on the season, versus the risk of being distracted by the excitement building all around him. He said Kellan won't leave early unless he is assured of being a high draft pick. Both he and his parents realize the equally high value of a Davidson degree.
Although he was somewhat cagey with his post, I assume Diane Lane was not on the train with MLC67. Had she been sitting near him, he would have undoubtedly creeped her out by revealing the existence of our small but obsessive group of D-Cats cult followers.
(Miss Lane can currently be seen in her leading role on the new Amazon series, The Romanovs.) _________________ “Yeah, well, you know, that’s just, like, your opinion, man.†— Jeff Bridges as The Dude in "The Big Lebowski" |

Sorta like we hardy few, we band of brothers - RaptorwftcbdfMLC67 - were seated at the Head Table (right up front) so that we could reach out and hug each event speaker - AD Chris, Coach Gayle and King Bob -for their highly inspirational noteless addresses on the uniqueness of athletics in Camelot worshipfully devoured by the assembled worshipful.
Now, before adding final thoughts on the Main Event - not attended by Ms. Lane, but present were two icons of the Lefty Era, Mike Spann and Barry Teague - let me take this opportunity to share my impressions from the afternoon practice. Speaking afterwards to most of our assistant coaches, each individually choose the word "intense" to describe the drills that the lads undertook for over two hours. I choose another series of descriptors: brutal, sadistic, worthy of televised cage matches. True, I have yet again fallen into my propensity for hyperbolic rhetoric; nonetheless, I indeed found these drills to be almost scary when Coach speaks of the need to keep everyone healthy this season. Hey, but what do I know? Here is what I do know: the lads will most assuredly enjoy immensely playing the real games this year, as the presence of refs will presumably keep the carnage to a minimum.
Finally dessert - Coach named the starting line-up for the Super Secret Scrimmage against UT, and yes Youth will be served with Luke and Luka starting along with JAG, Kellan and Uncle Ki. My own prediction from observing practice indicates that Nate, Dusan and CC will be huge contributors off the bench with high likelihood of being on the court in many crunch times.
With that bombast for what it's worth, I'll sign off for now. _________________ All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for men of good will to do nothing. Eddie Burke

I saw my former neighbor tonight who is a Dayton alumnus. He went to the basketball event and got to speak with Kevin a bit and especially enjoyed that.
He said that Bob mentioned the Maui tournament agreement had now been signed. Neither of us is ready to decide on that trip, though we certainly enjoyed Hawaii last year. They took the same cruise I did before the tournament, so also spent some time on Maui. _________________ Μεγάλη ἡμÎÏα εἶναι ΛÏγξ |
