Shame that Nevada isn't coming to Belk this year. I bet that game would sell out.

Good for Furman, happy to see them having success and a road win against Villanova is definitely something to be very proud of and a good win. The loyola chicago win on the road also could be good, but its hard to say how it will hold up and is heavily influenced by the incredible run Loyola Chicago had last year.

That said, the ranking feels kind of bogus looking at the rest of their schedule. I am pretty certain 3 of their 8 games were not against division 1 competition, or teams Ive ever heard of (Bob Jones University North Greenville, and South Wesleyan). Then after that they also have two point wins over western carolina and gardner webb.

Just feels like the writers knew they beat villanova and saw they had a nice 8-0 record and didnt look any deeper than that at all. Having 37.5% of your wins be against not D-1 opponents seems like it should prevent a ranking to me.

When was the last time a non-davidson socon team was ranked? Did CoC sneak in during their time in confrenace?

ETSU with Mister Jennings? Maybe Chattanooga?

Looked at Massey ratings a minute ago, and as of today there are four SoCon teams rated higher than any of our A-10 brethren. Furple (32), UNCG (58), Wofford (67), and ETSU (84) are all rated higher than SLU at 90. Will be interesting to track this as the season progresses.

In '98-'99, CofC was 16th in the final AP Poll. They were 28-3. That was the season they saved the SoCon and a little more than a year after Chattanooga went to the Sweet 16.

In '02-'03, they were 25th at least one week. That was Tom Herrion's first year as coach.

I hope that they beat a Top 25 team tonight. Matt needs a win.

And that would help Northeastern's SOS, which would help us, I think.

Furman flat-out is not a top 25 team. They are #122 on Kempon, which is perhaps the largest single discrepancy I have seen between the two.

I think that's right, but who knows with this new "NET" thing. Presumably, Elon beating Furman would improve their NET. Then if Northeastern beats Elon, it would improve their NET more than if Elon didn't beat Furman. Presumably, our NET improves if Northeasterns does.

Where I think it might be different than the old RPI is that I don't think you get any reward for playing a good team even if you lose to them. (So presumably Northeastern would not see its NET improve if they lose to Elon, regardless of whether Elon beats Furman). But who knows.
