Here we go again. I know it’s an exhibition game, but â€" It’s still a game. And we haven’t had one for a while.
Speaking of “a whileâ€, as I was making my usual last minute entry into the season, I found myself looking at the date of the game. At the very end of the date, you know, that year thing, I saw an “8â€. It dawned on me that I founded Threadstarter World Headquarters in a year ending in an “8â€.
I am well into the “Can’t remember what I had for breakfast†stage of my life, but a few things stand out in my distant memory. Pink Hair was a DC Junior in March of 2007, and she called me up during our NCAA game. She was in Belk and I was in my office down here, but we watched the game “together†via texts and emails.
I think it was the first time I had thought about DC basketball since I graduated. A lot of things had happened in my life in that 39 year span, and somehow Davidson Hoops just never made much of an appearance.
But for some reason, it seemed to be something I should perhaps take another look at.
As the season started in 2007, I discovered the board. It seemed to be a way I could participate without really knowing a whole lot about basketball. (Which I still don’t.)
The Boss and I went to the game at Georgia Southern that year, and Pink Hair rode down on the fan bus to start a school break. I wrote about that for the board.
Things progressed, and 2007-2008 turned out to be an interesting year. I went to the SOCON finals, and wrote about it for the board. Pink Hair graduated that June. I wrote about it for the board.
That sort of thing was getting to be a habit.
It dawned on me that I was stuck in front of a computer all day anyway, and have a borderline OCD fetish about schedules and timing, so maybe I could put that to some use. Somewhere along the way to the 2008-2009 season, I volunteered as Threadstarter, since it would only take a few minutes per game.
It wound up taking a bit more than that.
Typing “Go Cats!†at the proper time is pretty easy if you plan ahead. But I came to feel a compulsion to fill in a bit of that blank space on the screen above it. And I did not have a store of basketball knowledge to fill up that space.
So I had to … improvise a bit.
And today I realized I’ve been improvising, adlibbing, obfuscating and digressing for 10 damn years.
Ten years of panicking as the clock slides toward an hour before tip-off without a thought or plan in my head.
Ten years of flinching as I hit “Submitâ€, wondering if this will be the last straw for decent readers everywhere.
And ten years of imagining visiting readers from other more normal boards going “What the Hell…?â€
Could be worse…
Go Cats!

Since it’s been 4 years since the last hall of fame post, this one seems as good as they come. |

I can't get LiveStats, I can't find it on ESPN+ and WHIP radio tells me there is an error, so I can't get that either! |

To use a fishing analogy, this is like a school of hungry bluefish tearing into a school of finger mullet. _________________ "There ain't no sanity clause!" Chico Marx |

ESPN+ deserted me on the tablet, came back just now. Looks like everyone's scoring. Announcer-man says KG with 12. Outstanding. |

Thanks for the link. That works. I'm not sure why I can't get WHIP or LiveStats. |

Walking to locker room under his own power, which is a great sign, but gingerly. Thought it was odd he didn’t go to locker room earlier, looked visibly upset on the bench. Love his game and hope he’s okay |
