Sharing a FB post from the Alumni office Quote: | Dear Davidson alumni,
We reach out today with a difficult and unusual request. A Davidson alumnus, Patrick Braxton-Andrew ’06, who is the son of Davidson’s retired long-time cross country coach, has gone missing near Urique, Mexico. Below is the information we know from his family. If you have any contacts in the area, please contact family friend Nancy Slagle at sraslagle@gmail.com or 704-779-2059. The closest police station is six hours away. We are working to mobilize any resources we have in the Davidson family to help them find him. Patrick is fluent in Spanish and has traveled abroad in Central America regularly.
Thank you for any advice or connections you may have.
All best,
Eileen Keeley '89, Vice President for College Relations
From his father:
Our son, Patrick Braxton-Andrew, has gone missing in Mexico. My wife and I are in Tulum, Mexico on an unrelated vacation. The purpose of this email is to request your help in locating him. Here are the details that we know at this time. Patrick left North Carolina on Wednesday, October 24 and flew to Mexico, connecting to Chihuahua. On Thursday, Oct 25, early in the morning, he boarded the Copper Canyon train. He spent the night in Posada Barrancas Divisadero. We believe he took buses and arrived in Urique on Friday or Saturday, October 26 or 27. We had text message contact with him on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Our last text message with him was after 2:51 pm. He was supposed to meet his brother in Mexico City Tuesday, October 30, late afternoon, but he did not show up. With the help of the hotel staff, where we're currently staying, we have been able to track down his last known whereabouts. We have been able to determine that he went missing Sunday afternoon while on a walk (he left about 4 pm) in the area around Urique. The hotel owner said he never returned from his walk. Someone had seen him walking near a ranch on Sunday afternoon. Supposedly, locals looked Monday and Tuesday for him. We don’t know how hard they looked. They also didn’t contact the police, though the nearest police department is something like 6 hours away. The people at the hotel my wife and I are staying at in Tulum, Mexico, have been very helpful and made many telephone calls for us Tuesday night when we realized that he was missing. My wife and I know little Spanish.
Our youngest son, Kerry, talked with the US Embassy in Mexico City last night and he was going to meet with them this morning. We’re also going to reach out to the US Consulate General and the US citizen Services in Ciudad, Juárez. We currently do not have call phone service, but hope to buy a phone today. We can be reached at my email address: jeangary@mi-connection.com or text 704-533-0055, when we have internet service.
I know this is long but we wanted to provide as much detail as possible. Please help as we are frantic. |

Was he a vet? Any indication of PTSD? We went through a similar scare with our son in Senegal due to an unrecognized PTSD episode. I hope this one ends up as well as his did. |

No, I don't think Patrick is a Vet and I don't believe PTSD is a potential factor. He is a great young man who has traveled extensively and is fluent in Spanish. Among other things he formerly served with the Davidson in Peru program. Please keep him and his family in your prayers in hopes for a safe return. _________________ "I like to dream yes,..." |

The search for Patrick has continued but as far as I know he still is missing. Friends of his who are helping with coordinating the search have requested that folks call Senator Thom Tillis's office(202-224-6342) and Senator Richard Burr's office(202-224-3154) to ask for their support to increase the efforts to find him.
Praying for a positive outcome for Patrick and his family. _________________ "I like to dream yes,..." |

I have been dreading this post. Tragic. Puts in prospective our sorrow when DU gets beat - no further words. _________________ All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for men of good will to do nothing. Eddie Burke

The worst nightmare scenario. So hard to comprehend the blatant disregard for human life by those cartel #%*^%#’s. The Davidson family and all who had the good fortune to know him are suffering his loss. Please keep his family in your prayers. _________________ "I like to dream yes,..." |
