This game was a toss-up a month on Massey a month ago. Now we're expected to lose, 70-65. 37% chance. #296 at #231.
Balanced team, with four players averaging double figures, plus another at 8+ ppg. They shoot over 40% from 3-pt land. Third leading scorer Camryn Brown has made 23 of 49 threes.
I believe a friend and I watched a Davidson women's game in this same HPU gym in 1977. High Point had a really good player who made (and completed) a behind-the-back pass off the dribble at full speed on a fast break. That was something you just didn't see back then.
There's a good chance Mackenzie will move up another spot on the scoring list this game. And Justine will likely go over 800 career points in her next game or two. She's easily on pace to pass 1000 points this season. _________________ ...coming out of the murky, dreary jungle of untutored mediocrity. |

I think this is a 3-5 point game. Will give the edge to High Point because they are at home. Hoping we can have a full roster, if so, I think we can pull this out. This is a work in progress and I am not sure how much of the progress will show up in the win column this season, but excited for the team's future nonetheless. _________________ www.DavidsonPhotos.com

High Point plays in the same gym they did in '77. It's the same gym they used in the '60s. Channel 8 in High Point used to broadcast the Panthers' men's games on Saturday nights. |

Derek's audio is up.
The usual suspects starting tonight... Katie, Saadia, Justine, Ally, Mackenzie.
Three HPU starters from Ohio.
Panthers pressing full court, retreating to man-to-man, Cats in man-to-man.
Pretty nice start. Under 5 timeout, 15-9, Cats, who are beating the press easily. Mackenzie has 7.
End of 1st qtr, 21-18, Cats. Good energy tonight. Justine with 4. Kianna also with 4 off the bench. Only one Cat turnover, two for HPU. _________________ ...coming out of the murky, dreary jungle of untutored mediocrity. |

Getting a bit physical out there. Katie hits a three with 7 nanoseconds left on the shot clock to put us back in the lead, 25-23.
5:18 left in the 2nd qtr, 27-25, HPU. Our offense is getting ragged. Still good energy, need to play a tiny bit smarter. Mackenzie on the bench with 3 fouls.
HPU mixing in some matchup zone.
Halftime, 39-32, HPU. Outworked that period. HPU called off the press and is using their halfcourt D to control the game.
Mackenzie has 8 pts, Katie with 5, three players tied with 4, including Justine who has 6 rebs. _________________ ...coming out of the murky, dreary jungle of untutored mediocrity. |

3rd ptr, 6:54 left, 46-34. Timeout, Cats.
4:45, 53-38. Ally with 6 pts this qtr. Defense and energy lacking now. _________________ ...coming out of the murky, dreary jungle of untutored mediocrity. |

Cats pressing full court these last few minutes, trying to make something happen.
** Mackenzie with her 9th and 10th points, passing Dakota into the 8th spot on the list.
End of 3rd, 63-51. Ally also in double figures with 10. _________________ ...coming out of the murky, dreary jungle of untutored mediocrity. |

Good start to the 4th, Cats pressing, now within 7, 63-56.
63-60. Ally with 16 now plus a FT coming after the HPU timeout.
Justine asserting herself with 5 straight, 69-67, HPU, 4:30 left.
Mackenzie with 2 FTs... make, miss, still down 1.
Justine ties it with a three, 71-71. Katie with the scoop, 73-71. Justine, another three, 76-71, Cats.
Justine with the steal and score, 78-71. HPU misses, Justine to the line for a pair with 38 seconds left... miss, make. 79-71.
HPU hits a trey, 79-74, 28 seconds. Pressure coming.
24 seconds, Justine to the line again... miss, miss, but Saadia gets the long rebound. Saadia's turn at the line... miss, make, up 6 now.
Still up 6, Justine with two more FTs.... make, make.
** Final, 82-74. Wow. _________________ ...coming out of the murky, dreary jungle of untutored mediocrity.

4th qtr score was 31-11. We closed on a 14-3 run.
Or, if you prefer, we closed on a 42-15 run after being down 59-40 with about 14 minutes remaining.
Justine had 25 pts, 13 rebs, 5 asts, and 3 stls. She's over 800 points for her career now.
Ally had 16 pts with her Dad in attendance. Mackenzie had 11 pts, 8 rebs, 5 asts, and 2 blks.
Saadia with 10 pts and 6 rebs. Derek gave her the defensive player of the game award, which I approve of since she's been playing very good defense all season. Katie with 7, and a nice job by Chloe off the bench with 6 pts, steadying the ship when we were way down.
Justine, Mackenzie, and Ally each played the final minutes with 4 fouls apiece.
HPU threw a variety of physical defenses at us tonight -- man, zone, half court traps, full court presses, denying the inbounds pass, you name it. We committed only 12 turnovers -- pretty good job of preparation and execution.
Up next, Charlotte comes calling this Thursday. _________________ ...coming out of the murky, dreary jungle of untutored mediocrity.
