Most FBS schools looking to reschedule at this time have already played one FCS opponent this season so they are looking for games against FBS opponents that can actuality count towards bowl eligibility.
I understand this question was posed as more of a fun "what if?", but we will never see it happen at Davidson unless the Wildcats ever make the jump to scholarship football.
This board has often suggested Davidson schedule a money game vs an FBS team. That is quite simply not going to happen. Our money games will always be against scholarship FCS programs. Its extremely rare to see a non scholarship FCS like Davidson play anyone at the FBS level much less Power 5 teams the board is suggesting. With the NEC and Patriot League moving to scholarship football you occasionally see them schedule FBS games but it is not very common. Ivy League and Pioneer League teams playing FBS opponents is even more rare. SD at SD State in 2015 is one of the last examples of a non scholarship FCS playing an FBS school I could find. We often see the blow outs that occur when a scholarship FCS (63 scholarships) takes on a FBS team (85 scholarships). 0 vs 85 is not a match up I care to see nor one that many coaches or administrators on either side would sign up for. |
Akron is FBS. They are in the MAC. |
My point exactly. I was not saying that they had filled that date with an FCS opponent I was saying that the certainly won't since they had already scheduled FBS Akron. USC was always looking for a FBS opponent for that open date and they found one. The Gamecocks played Chattanooga last week in their traditional game against a FCS opponent in the week before the Clemson game. I'm certain the Gamecocks and most FBS programs would never like to schedule two FCS opponents in a year as only one win per season vs a FCS opponent can count towards bowl eligibility. |

It would make sense to schedule a FCS opponent for the substitute game if you already had 6 qualifying wins or if you had no chance to become bowl eligible. |

Got it. I misunderstood what you were saying. |

First off, it is great to have some Wildcat football talk this time of year.
All of this talk of an extra game has me dreaming. Is it possible that if Coach Abell was able to win a couple of Pioneer Championships, would we be at a point where we could actually play a BCS money game? I am sure a $500,000 to $1,000,000 would be a yuge help to our program.
We already have a relationship with UNC and Duke in basketball. I would be stoked to have the Cats (if ready) play one of our in state teams. _________________ "They were energized by this move to the A-10. How could you not be?" McKillop said. "The tree is filled with a lot of presents." |

I believe that Coach Abell and Co. will have the Cats ready to compete against top level scholarship FCS programs very soon! |
