Let's don't kid ourselves. We are talking about the guy who had after-hours sex with a woman who was not his wife on a table in a restaurant and later gave her $3000 "to help with health insurance" after she turned up pregnant. That guy did not get fired.

North Carolina coach Larry Fedora has lifted the indefinite suspension for one cornerback and will reinstate a second this weekend after the two were charged with misdemeanor assault tied to a fight near campus this month.

Hughes was charged with assault inflicting serious injury for punching the victim and breaking his nose, knocking him unconscious and causing a concussion as well as lingering health issues, according to an arrest warrant.
Stewart was charged with assault and battery for punching the victim “several times in the face,” according to an arrest warrant.

Not a Tarhole defender but the coach obviously thinks the a $$ kicking was justified and the facts haven't been released.

One morning in the summer of 89, our LB coach came in the coaches meeting room praising the self-control of one of our lineman. Getting in a fight, no matter how justified by self-defense, would make him look bad in the news and hurt him in the draft. So he took the punches, found some defense, and refused to fight back while he retreated a number of blocks back to the dorm.

Later that year, we play UCLA in the Rose Bowl. They are ranked 8th and have 3 All-Americans on defense. One is a DT who plays right across from this lineman. On the PAT following our first TD, the All-American leaps high in the air to try to block the kick. Our guy delivers a short, quick shot to the belt area as he extends his arms to block. The Bruin's hands came down and he did not leap again on our other PATs or FGs.

Noticed this on the film, so a couple of us asked him about it. He shrugged. "Football is a rough game. He didn't like it. I told him -- I'm here all night."

It was a total, complete, physical ass-whipping. I thought about the drunk student from the summer and how lucky for him that our lineman had self-control. Otherwise, there would have been one fewer students enrolled that fall.

Smart kid, he handled that situation perfectly. In the UNC situation we just don't know the facts. The coach's actions are implying extenuating or mitigating factors may have be involved. It's a good bet that the UNC kids didn't handle their situation perfectly but to what level their actions were justified is impossible to know without those facts.
